Keystone did it to me again

So we’re on our way home from our cross country trip and the roof starts filling up with air. I called keystone customer service about the three year structural warranty and she said my unit does not qualify. She asked about roof maintenance. I told her I check it about every four months. Told her I had to remove the roof vent cap because it was only held on with one screw. After cleaning up the area and reattaching the screws and applying dicor the warranty is again void since that product is not correct.
So at this point no help from keystone, no help from warranties, I’m stuck paying to fix a two year old roof that obviously was not done right the first time.
Don’t know what to do. Not a happy camper.

Tony

What did she say specifically about the Dicor? I'm thinking the Dicor 501 sealant says it will work with TPO. Did she say what the proper product was?

I don't think I would accept that response; they need to be far more explicit. I would contact Dicor and ask them as well. I do believe their product works on TPO ( I know it works). I've read that Alpha systems products are "recommended" but that doesn't mean nothing else works.

The bottom line is like saying you can only use a OEM oil filter or your warranty is void. Or saying you can only use Traeger wood pellets in your Traeger or your warranty is void. Pretty sure if you raise enough he’ll they will have to meet you somewhere in the middle

I’m so upset is an understatement. I’m not sure why doing maintenance and fixing the roof vent since it was not done correctly now voids my warranty.... maybe I’m to honest to a fault as I tell my story to keystone my wife just about slaps me upside my head !!! I’ll take a pic of what it looks like maybe someone can provide guidance to repair. I’m going to sell this or trade it in I just can’t do this anymore...

The trick is to not admit to doing any repair work. All that does is give them a reason to deny the claim sight unseen.

Roof was "filling up with air". Did you see it from inside the truck? Have you been able to ascertain where the air is entering to make it billow up? I'm sick for you.

No didn’t see anything.... noticed some pulling away by the front but that’s it.... I did purchase the good Sam extended service plan but can’t make heads or tails out of the legal jargon... My stomach is twisting into knots...

The glue holding the roof membrane to the wood underneath has simply failed. This is quite common as we see 5ers all the time on the highway with the roof membrane ballooning up. We went through this very same thing with our Wildcat 5er several years ago.

Forrest River covered us for a complete new membrane and install even though our Wildcat was nearly a year past warranty. They even gave us the choice of bringing it to them or letting a local dealer do it.

I wouldn't give up on Keystone just yet. I would call again and ask politely for a different service agent or a manager.

I keep hearing that these roofs have a 10 year warranty..? Even the wife remembered the dealer telling us that. If that’s the case who is it warrantied through....?

The roof membrane manufacturer warrants the actual roof material for 10 years not the install of said roof.

Peel that off and go with RV Armor or crazy seal off you want to DIY it. Never have a roof issue again.

Trailer is not worth the expense of roof armor. Going to get rid of it once fixed. Yeah I’m upset, pissed and bitter lol

Go the crazy seal route. 50 year warranty and it costs less than 1500

Remove the entire rubber roof...? I’m hoping keystone will do something if not I’m going to see about getting it repaired. Seems like a lot of work to remove the entire roof since only the front 10-15 feet is the issue. I don’t know much about this stuff at all so I’m hoping to learn from all of you about what to do.

I will never camp in this again I plan on trading it in for SOB. I really want to love my unit but it’s getting so hard....

Hoping to repair and trade in. Hopefully!!

Tony
