Flooding in Colorado

Any MOC members heading out I70 or I80, please be careful. Do not try a side trip to Rocky Mountain National Park. You cannot get through the area. Volkswagen sized rocks on the road. Highways 34, 36 and 14 are closed. Cars in parking lots at I70 and I225 are in water up to their windows. We are delaying our departure for the MOC rally because of the rain. We have gotten as much rain in the last two days as the rest of the year (4.79" at our house from this storm) with another 1-2" expected today. Take care. Montanas do not float - well.

Yikes, Ron. Be safe and smart. Have seen stuff on the news. Not good. Glad you're OK and monitoring the situation.

Ron, the rain has been so nice this summer and cool. Last couple of years too dry and too many fires.

We were going to leave for rally today. It is too dangerous to try getting our Montana down the hill. 100 feet stand between us and leaving. More rain on its way. We are going to err on the side of caution although yelling out "hey Terrie, watch this" is playing in the back of my mind.

It''s not been too bad in Durango. Softened the golf course up. Congrats on the outcome in CS and Pueblo.

I think after below record rains for years maybe the ground is finally getting soaked. Maybe the politicians will think twice next time before trying to take away our gun rights.

Livermore is on 287. Our subdivision is halfway to Red Feather Lakes. Our only problem is I need to make a sharp right hand turn onto the drive and then another sharp right hand turn at the bottom onto Sheep Mountain Ct. It's scary when it's dry out.

And yes, we are at 7500 feet in Larimer County. Our subdivision was the last to burn in last year's High Park fire.

Sorry you had to endure the High Park fire. I am selling my mountain property before the fires or beetles render it worthless. I have rode dirtbikes on some of the trails around Red Feather Lakes. Lots of rocks. It sure is a beautiful area.

Colorado Springs report:
Hwy 24 between Manitou and Woodland Park is CLOSED. 5+ inches of rain expected in next 24 hours. Check http://www.koaa.com/home for latest info.
We were bailing out window wells during the last big storm (I'm going to fix that in 2 weeks)
Weather is coming at us from New Mexico. So far, I-25 is still open all the way thru Colorado.
Storm will be in Kansas tomorrow afternoon.

Try and dry things out before we get there in 11 days.

Ron, Looks like you guys aren't going to catch a break till Sunday. Its hasn't been raining that hard out here on the Parker side of the Denver metro. I know this spoils your plans. I think they always wait too long to call out the National Guard.

Our problem is getting the Montana down our drive because of the softness of the drive, erosion and the steepness. If we get a few days of dry air, we'll get down. But, for people down in canyons, it is scary. We are just down from the top of a mountain, so the water isn't gaining steam getting to us. Our mountain is rock and silt, so we haven't had to worry about slides. I70 and I25 are now shut down.

There is no stopping or controlling that much weight with it being down hill, turns and slick. Like you said; if you could get out there is no place to go.

Lynwood -
Where are you right now? I can recommend a campground that is near us and safe that will allow you to wait until RMNP opens. The elk are bugling and the campgrounds are pretty full up there. The only communication with Estes Park right now is via ham radio. The Thompson Canyon is flooded higher than 1976 when 145 people were killed in a flash flood. Let me know if you need any info.

How is the Poudre Canyon doing? I'm not there this year. Used to live out there and I know and fished that canyon too many times to count.
