Electric service tripping GFI Breaker
I just joined the association and this is my first posting so my apologies if I mess something up. We have a 2007 3485 SA that we really like except for one problem. I am sure we have some type electrical glitch in the system. The symptoms are that the unit will trip a gfi breaker on incoming services, the battery will not stay charged for more then a few weeks unless it is pugged in and the break controller on the tow vehicle (2005 F-250 6.0) sends random problem messeges while underway. We bought the trailer new and had the dealer "inspect" it. They could not find any problems. I called Keystone customer service and they were no help. Any one have any ideas?

We repaced both GFIs in the first week of service. They wouldn`t reset at all. Did you have the battery disconnect on off when the battery died? We`ve found the battery will drain down if left on because of the small electrical drains in the rig. Make sure to use electrical spray on your trailer plug and the truck plug. A clean secure connection should eliminate the random fault code.

jcaengr,
Often the problem is an open ground. Somewhere someone probably did not connect the ground wire securely. We were having that sort of problem and finally just started checking all the ground wire connections. Found several that were very loose. Snugged them up and all has been fine since then. Of course it could be a bad GFCI receptacle.

Any power supply that I plug the trailer into will trip if it is a gfi. This past weekeend we were setting up at Big South Fork NP in Kentucky and could not power up the rig. I broke off the ground terminal from a 30 to 15 amp adapter and plugged it into the power supply to at least keep the lights and coffee maker powered. Thanks.

The interior gfi's are OK. It is the main power supply that trips at the camp ground supply post. The batterry will hold a charge if the switch is off but will discharge after a few weeks otherwise. I'll try the spray. Thanks.

Battery discharge as you describe is totally normal, there are several small drains on the battery that will discharge it in 1 to 2 weeks. Either the unit must stay plugged in or throw the disconnect switch, OR, have a dead battery.
The other??? Sorry, I cannot help you. But, what the electrician (sleeping) hubby tells me, is start at one end and work to the other. So, in your case, he would be looking real hard at that electric cord to be sure all the connections are good and solid.
The break controler, have NO idea, call the vendor??? Many are wonderful at helping you.
Be careful out there, electricity can hurt you.

jcaengr,
No I was not tripping the campground power supply. I was tripping the GFCI inside the rig. I remember reading somewhere here on the MOC about your type of problem but do not remember what the 'fix' was nor where in the MOC it is located! Sorry. Perhaps someone else will happen along that remembers the details.
Good luck. And keep us informed as to what you find.
