Ram Folding 40/20/40 front Console - can someone sit it at all?

I have a 2011 F350. I have four kids. Someone has to sit in the front with the folding console. It has a full seatbelt. It’s not great but survivable.

If I switch to Ram I need to seat six. But has anyone successfully used it? Does it have a shoulder harness like Ford? The Ram dealers around here don’t have any I can sit in. So I’m asking y’all. Thanks!

I’m ordering a dually tomorrow, either a Ford or Ram…and this is the one of final questions to sort out.

None of my Rams had seating up there and they didn't have a seatbelt for it either. My newest one is a 2017 so maybe something changed since then. I would closely question the dealer about it.

I have that configuration in my 2016 Ram 2500. Yes, it's possible, I've done it a few times in a pinch. But, that person is going to have to be small, the floorboard rises a few inches in the middle spot. Also, you won't be able to use the cup holders and the storage bin will be upright so everything in there will have been shifted like a cup of coins will be all over the place.

Sounds a lot like my F350. My 10 yr old daughter asks all the time to sit in the front middle. But yeh, I have to dig all my crap out of the console before folding it up.

Does it have the over the shoulder strap on the seatbelt?

Mine only has a lap belt.

We have a 2002 Crew Cab Chevy, and it has all the same issues. That truck only has a lap belt in that position, BUT so does the back seat in that year.

But, there was some point in time, and I don't know when, the NHTSA changed the standard, and ALL positions in vehicles had to have shoulder belts. I would think that if RAM has that option, it will have shoulder belts. Don't quote me on that though...

My 03 Chevy had the front split bench seat. The middle seat was “smallish”. DW still prefers that over the big center console. Even when we bought the 2019 Chevy she wanted a bench front seat. The 03 Chevy also had a much better fold down rear seat for the dogs. It folded completely flat not humpy, bumpy and sloped like the current rear seat. Some things are VERY important considerations!

That looks much nicer than what I have. Maybe more comfortable for longer trips.

We have the center seat with lap belt. No shortage of "volunteers" to use it.

In the 2020+ GM's, the rear seat actually folds UP, and you do not get that nice flat spot like your talking about. It leaves you with more "space", but it's not necessarily useable space...
