Operation of Gas Stop on propane tank

Hello everyone. My first post. I now own my first Montana. It is a 2021 Legacy 3781RL. I have a question about the aftermarket 'Gas Stop' I added to my propane tank. When I try to run the generator it starts up and then stops immediately. Tank is 1/2 full and valve is in the open position. When the gas stop is removed generator starts up and continues to run fine. Not sure what is going on. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Not sure where you purchased them, but you may contact TechnoRV. They do sell the gas stop devices and are very knowledgeable about them. https://www.technorv.com/

From GasStop website:

"Many propane fuelled generators consume a large volume of propane, meaning they draw a high rate of flow. GasStop is designed to shut-off when that rate of flow exceeds 70 SCFH/75,000 BTU/hr (this is what happens during a major leak). Larger generators may ‘mimic’ this high flow rate scenario, thus effectively tripping GasStop into ‘major leak mode’. It is therefore advised that, if you have a propane fuelled generator, you check it’s propane rating (rated no higher than 70 SCFH/75,000 BTU/hr) before purchasing or using your GasStop"

Edit: checked the numbers and at half load we'd be right about at 75k BTUs of lp consumption (the trip rate for the GasStop).

I'm not understanding why one of these devices would be needed. There is already an excess flow valve built in to the pigtail that connects to the propane cylinder which will shut down most of the gas flow if a line is cut or with any other failure that that causes a major leak.

It's just another gimmick to take your money. New units already have several means of reducing the gas flow in the case of a major leak/broken line.
The folks at Gas Stop are just playing on your fears.
The issue with your Generator has surfaced on other RV Forums.

Thanks to all of you who replied. That's what I thought may be the problem. Didn't know about the existing shutoff and my fault for not reading the web site info on the Gas Stops. It is nice to know Montana owners have a resource of knowledgeable MOC members.
