Talking Get out the popcorn:)

Stopped at the Flying J in Amarillo today around noon. This poor guy was stuck in the tighter of two RV lanes. As you can see, not a lot of snow, not much grade, but couldn't move until snow was cleared and then he was afraid to stop for gas. Had to just keep moving. There wasn't any real way I could help and we had to get to Carlsbad so we had to go. Don't know how or where he got gas. When we have those discussions about the need for a 4X4 this is what some of us are talking about. It's rare, but you're glad you have it when you need it. Now let the comments begin

Oh, and if that's not enough discussion for you, it's a 2500.

In 5 years I used 4 wheel drive at least a dozen times. I would have been stuck without it.

I have used my 4 wheel drive one time in 4 years but I would never buy a truck without it and a long bed 3500HD to pull a 5th wheel.

Just throw some of that popcorn under the wheels, put some more air in the airbags and poof he would be on his way

We do have 4X4. We have used it maybe 6 or 7 times since 2008 but in each case it would have been a towing bill.

I've had to use 4wd on flat but wet, grassy sites.

Under certain conditions, I prefer 6 wheels pulling versus 2 wheels. The last time I had a 2 wheel drive 3/4 ton truck, I got stuck on a boat ramp pulling out my 21' bass boat as soon as my rear tires left the concrete. Had to walk back to the house and ask the DW if she could bring her Jeep to the ramp and pull me out. She pulled my rig out with no problem. It was one of my more embarrassing moments.

We live in the PNW, and use our truck for things other than towing. 4x4 up here is a necessity not a luxury.

Seems 4x4 is about standard these days. Try finding a nice truck on a dealer's lot that is not 4x4.
I am on my fifth pickup and all have been 4x4. But then I use my truck for everything, year round. Wouldn't have one without it.

I've only owned 4x4 trucks in all but one used one I bought that my dad uses to run around town in. Never been stuck in any of them.....except that one

In all seriousness, I used 4x4 quite a bit and the local Ford dealer which is one of the nation's largest, has a row of only 2WD duallies. It takes quite a while for them to sell, but there are people who do not ever leave the pavement and never tow in the winter. I won't be without 4x4 if at all possible.

I agree that 4 wheel drive is seldom needed but when it is, it is a priceless option. There are numerous times I have been unable to move and had to rely on 4 wheel......Once I even got stuck while in 4 wheel on grass that was too soft. I was very fortunate that I had 4 wheel drive, if I hadn't, I could have never have gotten THAT stuck that far from a solid surface.....

Set aside time for this thread.
Had my popcorn ready.
Sat back in my recliner.

What ? No dissent ? No alternate opinions ? No drama ?

Well, at least my buttered popcorn was good.

We tow in the winter and wear we go you better have a 4x4 or you will get stuck in the snow and mud. We just got back today from a 2 week trip to the Mount St Helen's to play in the snow with out 4x4 you would never get to wear we go in the winter time.
