Gray tank Valve on 3400

Anyone with a 3400 know how the gray tank handle attaches to the gray tank valve. Mine seems to have come loose and before I tear into it I would like to know if there is a cable or if the aluminum tube screws onto something inside and what may be the problem....

Any suggestions????

Phil,
The handle screws onto a long stud on the valve. One of mine came loose and I was lucky enough to stick the handle back in and find the stud and screw it back on

Best described as like a gun cleaning rod where the attachments screw into the end of the rod. When I had my underbelly down I tightened it then wrapped a strip of gorilla tape around it to prevent it from backing out.. On the 3400 you can remove some of the underbelly screws in the area of the handle and get in there to attach it. Now when the galley handle comes apart....big problem...

The galley handle can be a problem. I have noticed recently that after 200 miles, the galley handle is loose. I take my finger and turn it until I feel resistance then stop.
As for the Grey and Black, you need to maintain a position on the handles, once they are finger resistant. I do this by placing some rags under them to keep them from spinning. So far, so good. I'm thinking of a solution for the galley handle, but right now it's just thought. You know what thought did, don't you? Nothing, just thought he did!

I may have cried wolf. I dumped the gray tank yesterday and might have left the valve open. I dumped the black today and always follow up by dumping gray to wash the line. When I opened the valve, at least I thought I did, no water flowed out and both of us had taken a shower this morning so there had to be water in it. Anyway, I checked by adding water to bathroom sink with valve in and opened in up and water flowed, closed it and flow stopped, SO, hopefully I had a CRS moment and had'nt closed it yesterday. We will use a few days and check it again. At least I hope that is what happened.

I have a 2955RL 2005. My galley handle unscrewed. I was able to unscrew a couple of the belly screws and get my hand on the end of the treads. I put loc-tight on the threads and was able to screw it back in. Have had not problem since.

If the rods for the valves seem a little loose, but are still working can you just tighten them with gentle pressure, so that they don't separate?

Thanks

Phil,
I have been disconnecting and hooking up with the exception of the water hose, so I can get a shower just before taking off. To my chagrin, I didn't close the grey valve and at the next set-up I got a surprise when I loosened the sewer cap. Luckily I have learned to loosen it and pull it away just a little bit so I can quickly connect it back and get the bucket. Glad it was the Grey water!

Hey Wayne,
It only takes doing that once with the black (in my case my ladder in the basement shifted and opened the black valve) before I went out and added another valve at the discharge connection. Now when I take the cap off, I am sure there are no surprised until I have the hose hooked up and am ready for flow to occur.

Sort of gives you a "crappy" outlook on life when that happens - but then, later, the humor o it all sets in.
