ac ceiling vents

Can someone say for sure how the vents can be taken apart or covers removed? Talking about those 5 or 5.5 inch white, rotatable vent outlets that allow one to adjust in what general direction one wants the air to go. I want to see how they protrude into the ducting and how much built up dust I have inside the actual vent. The first two vents, closest to the ac unit, showed dust on the fins. None of the others did or do. Thanks, john

John-- Get ahold of Ozz! He has taken his out and replaced them, if I'm not mistaken and he has a pictorial of his work also. If you go into the Search mode here you might find them also.

Grill pops off ... base screws to ceiling.
On edit ... that is on a 2011. The louvered ones that close off may be different.

Thanks for the replies. Mine don't have closing vents and they do seem to want to pull off since I can see downward movement when I tug on one. Was just being chicken of what would happen if it came off in pieces. Will look at the pics from ozz to see more. John

I will find the post, it may be a different diffuser, but the theory of blockage, or restriction could be the same.

Those who have messed with theirs using Ozz's methods have had some success at increasing air flow.

Replaced all my vents, and my A/C works so much better. Much better flow, and NO condensation.

Followed Ozz's recommendation. I removed all my air diffusers and found they extended about 2" into the supply duct. I trimmed all of them back and added adjustable dampers. Worked so much better and now can adjust the air flow to my DW's directions.

I bought mine off the floor in a RV place in Loveland Colorado, but you can get them on-line about anywhere.
