Question about Dish Network

Just recently got my dish set up and running. I'm new at this, and since I'm used to cable tv, I'm having some difficulties understanding the difference between it and Dish. One problem I've had is in recording shows. I have finally recorded a couple of shows successfully. However, during the process I managed to set up recordings for shows that I don't wish to watch and they are set up to continuously record. I have tried to delete them to no avail. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any and all help!
Al

Press your dvr button, go to schedule, then go to timers. You can find and delete any of.the.timers you have set up.
When you set up.a.new.show, it should ask you whether you want just one recording, record only new.shows, or record all shows. Choose which one is appropriate for you.
Just press your dvr button twice and you will see the menu i described above.
Good luck. Happy Thanksgiving!

another easy way is when you have the guide up on the TV you can move forward in time to see what is coming on in the near future. If there is something you want to record highlight it on the guide and then hit "select" on the remote. A screen will pop up asking you if you want to DVR it or auto tune to it. You also need to select if you want it done once, new episodes only or all episodes.

Phil, Thanks for that info. I'm still learning, so it helps to know all the ins and outs. Thanks again!

Don't feel bad. Every so often I still forget and have it recording the news or whatever over and over. On the other hand for shows you do want to watch having it pick out the new ones for you and record them on it's own is very handy.

The guide and select method is easiest for me. But sometimes I want to watch a particular show that's not yet on the guide, as in too far in the future. If there is something unique about the name, you can do a "Dish Pass" timer where you put in the key words and it will watch for those in the future and automatically set them to record. This also works well when there is a particular movie I want to see but I have no idea when it might be on tv, if ever.

Thanks Steve, Once I get the basics down, I'll have to check that out. I've only had this operating for about a week, so I'm really on a learning curve. It does sound like a good feature.

Thanks again,
Al

Here's another thing you can do. If you're a sports fan you can find your game on this website and then set the box to record it, if need be: http://www.mydish.com/gamefinder/
