The problem with the WiFi at 7 Feathers wasn't with the speed, it was with the "Life to Live" time. This is how long the supplied DHCP address was usable before it had to be "renewed". 7 Feathers was using a 15 min. lease (Life to Live). This was *REALLY* noticeable if you were using a VPN client!

Susan was using our air card, but I usually used the 7 Feathers signal because it was a little faster.

Like many others, we use a Verizon USB Air card, a Cradlepoint 350 Router (significantly cheaper than the Cradlepoint 1000) a Wilson Antenna, and a 3 Watt Wilson booster. It works really well.

What is involved with renewing the "life to live" process? Does it log you off and you have to start over from scratch?

I do not recall that being a problem from a year or so back. The first time we stayed at the park there was no cell phone or air card access! So the only outlet was the WiFi.

Thanks.

When the time runs out, the PC has to negotiate a new connection with the DHCP server. If you are watching the session status, you can see it go "unconnected", "acquiring connection" and "connected". I

In my case, the VPN system I use quits and I have to re-establish the session. This terminates the underlying applications I have running without saving any information. A major PIA!!!

If you are just cruisin' the net, you might not notice the machinations going on in the background. Or there is a delay that you attribute to a network hiccup. At worst you are delayed, there is no loss of data as I experience with a VPN session.

Carl,
Thanks for the explanation. That explains a lot. I have noticed that process from time to time and did just as you suggest..... deemed it to be networking problem.

Of course Quartzsite is NOT a secret place, Bill! Thank you sir for bringing us around full-circle and back to the topic!

There are ONLY 162 days, 2 hours, 34 minutes and 50 seconds, until the start of the Quartzsite Rally!

Just want to answer Dennis' question here, not hijack the thread again...

Our speed issues were mainly at Valley of the Rogue campground. But I do recall having frequent "interruptions" (sudden disconnects) at The Mill Casino RV. It was at a time we were working out air reservations--so quite frustrating. Seven Feathers wifi was great. Besides, we were too far away from Tontow to log on!!!!!!!
