First Tire Change
I am putting new tires on my Montana - couple questions.
1. The lug nuts were on so hard I had to use a pipe on my breaker bar. Is this normal or were they to tight?
2. With tires off I spun the wheel and could hear metal rubbing in both wheels. Do I need to pull the wheel hub and look at the breaks? How does the hub come off?
I have about 7000 miles on the camper.
Thanks for any help.
Chip

Sounds to me like they were over tourqued. Tourque should be 85#.
If you hear noise when turning the wheel pull it off and look, cheap insurance.
I don't know exactly how the hub comes off but if it is like most hubs there is a dust cap that pulls off and then a cotter key holding a nut that has to be removed.
Hope this helps.

The torque specs are I believe 110-120 pounds, so it does take a little effort to break them loose. Just make sure you torque them and recheck them after a few miles. The noise could just be a little rust build up from being parked all winter. It won't hurt to pull one drum to make sure.
On Edit, Go to the Montana web site for current torque specs for your style wheels, just to be sure

Please take this in the spirit of a fellow MOCer. Based on the questions you ask you are not in a position to do the work. Get the Montana to a good shop and let them handle it. Your safety and the safety of the Montana demand it.

I was told, during the PDI, that on our 2007 3400RL the torque was 110 pounds for our aluminum wheels.

If they are aluminum wheels, torque should be 110-120 ft lbs. If steel wheels, I don't know what the torque minimum should be. I have one steel wheel that I torque the same as my aluminum wheels. The reason I have one steel wheel is because one of my aluminum wheels cracked by the valve stem and I had to buy any wheel I could get to continue on my way.

Chip - I also have an '07 3075RL. The information that came with ours said to torque the aluminum wheels to 110 and gave a pattern to tighten the lug nuts.

I may well be wrong on the tourque numbers, I was speaking from memory. When we got the Tana I set my tourque wrench and haven't looked at it since.
When I get it home tonight I will check. Right now the Tana is at Les Schwabe getting a new set of tires. I got Toyo LTs. Hope I like them. I have Toyos on the TV and like them.
I put 18,000 on my Missions with no trouble but they were wearing and cupping on the inside so I figured what the heck I would go ahead and change them now instead of this summer plus Les Schwabe had a sale on.

Good thing I decided to change my tires now. When Les Schwab got them off one was starting to seperate and another was down below the legal tread depth.

Don,
The TOYOs are supposed to be a good tire. A truck driver friend told me they are some of the best. Good luck with them.

As info, torque wrenches like to be backed off when put away.

Torque wrenches definitely should be backed off to "0" when put away. Actually was taught at one time to return them to 1-2 #s. That's the way I store mine.

Yes, when storing a torque wrench, set it at "0". If you leave it set to a higher torque setting, the wrench will eventually not work correctly. That is the torque setting will not be accurate. So when using a torque wrench--set it to the desired torque, use it, then reset it to "0" for storage.
