Is there a particular brand and/or source for the AGM batteries you prefer?
Ours are Lifeline D8 batteries. Go to http://www.lifelinebatteries.com/
You can get a good view of all their AGM batteries.
One of the problems, if you're worried about pin weight, is that the D8 battery weighs about 150 lbs (and we have two of them!). They're expensive.

My battery on my 2955 will not hold a charge even when totally disconnected from the unit. So I am looking to replace the battery. Any recomendations on what type to get? Of course a deep cell but any other recomendations?
You probably have a deep cycle group 24 battery. Wal-Mart has a good battery and they seem to honor the warranty well.
Interstate would be another to consider.
Good luck!

I did things a little different when we got our AGM batteries. At the same time, we had our solar system installed with a ProSine 2.0 inverter. We have a HPV-22 charger controller which takes the current from the solar panels through the inverter charging circuitry for charging the batteries so we disconnected the installed converter. We just use the circuit breaker/fuse panel that is part of the converter setup. So I can't tell you just what kind of charge the converter might give the AGM batteries. I do know that my solar charging circuitry works great. The batteries are kept charged up. The HPV-22 controller will charge more rapidly when the batteries have had a draw on them but as the batteries reach their full charge (13.9 volts), the controller stops the charging.

Orv, ours works the exact same way but with some different models of components. We are very happy that we can easily supply our need for electricity with this option. And yes, they are expensive. We are happy we made the choice for the better battery.

You perked my interest and so I had to read the Manual, can you believe that, and couldn't find anything about special charging tecniques. So I called the company, Optima Batteries, and talked to a customer service rep and they said that you charge these as you would a lead acid battery. We'll have to watch them closely and see how well they do.

I also have a 2955. I notice you stated battery, not batteries (plural as in 2). When my coach was delivered, they added a second battery before delivery. Said they always do when a coach has 2 or more slides. They came from the factory with 1. Would check into doubling up no matter which direction you choose to go.

Like Clyde n Deb stated the dealer also installed two batteries in our 2955RL. They are the Interstate brand. I have also read where others only received one battery. This must be a dealer thing. JB

Look into the glass mat batteries. They are costly but I find they have long life. I have one in my 5er and two in the TV. They have given me excellent service.
