Well I might as well restart the old debate again, but this time I won't pay any attention to it. I eliminated the cheap little red regulator several years ago with zero adverse affect.

I removed the red regulator on our 2012 3585SA and lived in it full-time for 6 years. NEVER had a propane problem of any kind.

I've been debating whether to remove ours also. When we are dry camping and the fridge and our propane heater are both working that little red regulator wants to hum. Not sure what it is humming, but it sure is annoying.

Ours was removed several years ago when it decided to start leaking when we were in Thompson, Manitoba and snowing. Haven't missed it at all.
I'll add this, and it's only my opinion: I think the extra regulator is left over from the old style Propane Tanks with no internal protection, before the new tanks with an internal valve that limits the flow if it detects an open hose or pipe.
Again my opinion, no facts to back it up.

The probability of a problem is likely quite low. But the possibility of a problem is apparently there. I have explained before the process behind the National Fire Protection Association committee decisions behind making their requirements. For the minimal costs of the regulator why take a chance.

I bought the yellow tape. Funny thing is apparently they used the white water tape. I am sure that was not the problem. Ordered a new red regulator and will see if that fixes the problem. From what I am reading others have removed with no problems. Since it is on its way will just replace. Thanks for all the information as always.

My changeover is no longer working, not to much of a problem now that it is still August. However I will want to get one and replace it for the Winter. My problem is I see there are several choices and I don't want to get the wrong one. My Fifth Wheel is an 07 and I see on Amazon and Ebay the one that look close is a Cavagna 52-A-890-0010 yet I see other models on these sites. Can anyone help me decide which one is the best for my use. Thanks.

Mine looks like this one which was leaking out of the top crimp on the day I did our walk through Oct. 31, 2017.

Which appears to be the Marshall Excelsior MEGR-9984 2 stage Automatic Regulator from AMZN for $38.19

It looks identical to the Fairview model. I did notice that the JR Products 07-31525 Compact has a lifetime warranty. I think all of them are made in China though.

Any of them should do the job as long as the fitting size is correct.

The latest version of yours might be this one that claims to have a 5 year warranty.

I think I have had to replace the auto switch valve twice in 13 years. Both times the part was a drop in replacement and used the same holes to mount to the rig body. An easy job.

Thanks, the Cavagna 52-a looks close to the one on my 07 3485SA. So looks like I will get this one. Always a pleasure to hear from other Full-timers.

As others mentioned, that red curb side step down regulator is probably unnecessary now but at 10-12 bucks, no big deal. When the Chinese made Fairchild auto reg failed on ours, I replaced both with Marshall Excelsiors, the same kind as our last 5er had between 2006 and 2014. I also replaced the very heat hardened pigtails as well and with a bit longer hoses.

Dave W I read many reviews and I decided to go with the Marshall Excelsior's. Will post after I get it installed, Amazon says it will be delivered tomorrow. I hope to take time to put it on Saturday. Thanks

Newbie question about the "auto" switchover regulator. We've recently got a 2011 3150RL and I'm still learning how to manage the different systems. For this topic, the driver side propane tank has, from what I gather, an auto cutover function. The knob/handle (which is pointed on the end of the handle) rotates from the 9 0'clock position (presumably away from the tank) to the right to 3 o'clock (presumably toward the tank). It's either showing a Red or Green indicator in a plastic window; what's the significance? What do the different positions control? And does having it at 12 o'clock do anything? And I'm confused about when it turns Red vs Green - which side is out or are they both out of propane?

The lever should be turned to point to the full tank.
So it will be either pointing left or right. Not in the middle.
The instructions are in the files section

Propane Auto Switching Valve.

Wink

Thanks for file download...and thanks for the 12 o'clock "no-no" position clarification.
