Onan 6500 Generator

I am purchasing a 2017 Montana 3790RD. It came factory preped for the Onan 5500 generator. Well as everyone knows Onan generators are about impossible to find but I was able to get a new 6500 LP Generator locally by luck. It is a freight damage factory repaired unit.

Question I have is their any issue with installing the 6500 in place of the 5500. Other then I know it will use more fuel.

It's should be identical as far as installation and hook ups if it's a 120V model. The differences are all internal to the generator section (stator, rotor etc). The engine revs a little higher 2880rpm vs 2400 rpm. The generator section still runs at 3600rpm (belt drive/pulleys)

Also we haven't picked up our RV yet and I am having a hard time finding out what is in the Generator Prep Package. Is anything else needed other then the generator and exhaust pipe? Is the transfer switch and wire hook ups all part of the prep package?

You'll need gas hose and misc fittings as well. There should be a tee in the gas pipe with a plug you can remove to hook up the gas hose. ATS should be installed. Look in the ceiling of the front pass-through. There should be a metal junction box with an orange Romex running to it. You run the genset output wires to this box (two black, two whites and ground). You'll also want to relocate the Onan start/stop panel from the front closet to somewhere more accessible. If you pull the panel off the wall behind the front cap, there usually a lot of every wire for the panel (5-wire system) to relocate it to the cabinet facing the entry door.

identical physical foottprints. You will also need the stand and firebox in addition to an ATS and wiring. With our old rig the control panel and harness were also separate needs.
