Replace rear axle

I replaced the rear axle on my 2013 3402RL after about 7k miles. Tires wearing on the inside badly. No obvious culprit.

Inside wear on both tires generally indicates the axle is overloaded, or has been damaged by impacts and is out of alignment. If you're nose high you could be putting more weight on rear axle. You'll probably need to take it to a truck spring shop that can do specialized axle repair.

I had the same issue with my Montana 3811MS. Mine turned out to be a bent axle. If you looked under the coach at the axle you could tell it was bent compared to the one in front. If it happens again I am heading to get the independent suspension solution so many have raved about on this forum. Most of the axles are self aligning from what I read and there is little adjustment from what I could tell. My tires were getting eaten in a hurry just like you are describing.

Which way was your axle bent?
They both are supposed to have a slight but visible arch to them when unloaded. If they are straight or under curved they are in trouble.

Thanks for all the input. Just replaced all four tires with the Goodyear G614's - what a difference when you stand the Goodyear next to the stock tires. We have a pretty good heavy truck alignment shop near us; however, they will not align camper axles. Still looking for options there and will confirm we are not too nose high when i pin up. Anyone know what the factory uses for wheel bearing grease? I pulled the caps and it is red and the wheel bearing grease i have is dark grey. Knowing what i know about grease, I don't want to have a compatibility issue.

Towards the ground in the middle causing the wheels to have a negative camber. Which is why the inside edges wore so fast.

When I researched getting mine aligned I was directed to a truck repair shop. They have the tools to work on trailers. I never went since I discovered the rear axle was bent.

The red grease should be Valvoline red. It was what lippert told me they used when I had a Heartland. Until I put oil bath bearings on I used Valvoline.

Put some Sailuns on it and take it to a suspension shop to have axle alignment and wheel bearings. RV repair shop might do axle alignments once in a blue moon. Let the experts check it out.

I have a 2019 373RD with the factory tires still installed. They are a ST235/80R16. Load range F 12 ply. Tires still look good but ususally after the 2nd year i replace them. I was able to get Goodyears for my other camper but now i can't with this tire. I can get the Sailun Tires which are the S367T. They are a load range F and are 14 ply. I do have the metal valve stems installed. Looking on line this tire pressure goes up to 110 psi. My height is already 13' 6". I have several overpasses in my area that are 14 Ft clearance. Is this a good move to go with the Sailun Tire then?.

Sailuns are the best choice, and you gain 1/2" in height if you go the Sailun S637's ST235/85/16. And no they are not F rated they are G rated . 4400 lbs rated @ 110 psi.

You won't have an issue with the overpasses, if you don't now. 1/2" won't be an issue .

Sailun ST235/80R16, same size, G rated. MHC have had 110 psi rated wheels since at least 2017, probably earlier. You do NOT need the 85 series. Rated 4080 @ 110 psi
