We have had residential refrigerators for the last 15 years in all our R.V.s
Only once needed a repair and was easy to call an appliance repair person also reasonable on the wallet. R.V. refrigerators can be expensive to fix or replace.
We leave the inverter on all the time

I haven't seen any comments above concerning the situation we have so I'll add my thoughts here.

We turn the inverter off when on shore power. Discovered that the refrigerator runs off the inverter all the time if it is on and that the batteries never get fully charged. Asked the dealer why and was told that was the way the transfer switch worked - if the inverter is providing 110 (or so) then it is providing the power to the refer pulling from the battery. The charging portion of the 'converter' isn't large, nor fancy, enough to sense the load and increase the charging rate of the batteries.

People are going to tell me I'm wrong. 2 years ago I had to have mine replaced. Thank God it was still under warranty. The dealership told me to leave it on 24/7. All that is wrong. After talking to the company that makes them said don't leave it on if you don't need it. Its not good for it to leave on. So I don't leave it on f I don't need it. With out the warranty it would have been a $600 for a new one.

Do you or did you turn off your refridgerator in your house when not in use. That dealer fed you a line of crap.

This is one of those questions that the answer is: "It depends"
There are many different MFRs of inverters out there and to leave on or turn off will depend on the specific brand and model that you have.
Mine is an Inverter/Charger with a built-in Transfer Switch, so once connected to shore power it switches the Fridge to the shore power, and the Charger section kicks in to provide 12V charge to the batteries.
So mine is on 24/7/365

There will always be horror stories. Nobody really chimes in how everything works the way it is supposed to...

This is the same credo of the media... If it bleeds it leads.

If you are really worried about failures in a rolling earthquake, start thinking about a suspension upgrade (MORryde IS e.g.), not cheap... but I have not read any reports of disappointment with the ride quality improvement. Just sayin'.
