Dish receiver on top of TV

We have 2015 3160 where the only place to put DISH receiver is on top of TV behind black glass. So in order to use remote on the receiver, we have to hold arm way up in air to connect with the receiver. My arm gets real tired when channel surfing #128527; and my grandkids won't be able to change channels (that could be a good thing). Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have suggestions?

Mine is on top of the DVD/Stereo which is just high enough. I used to keep a printer up there on a printer stand. I'd go with the printer stand if the DVD wasn't tall enough.

Not familiar with the setup on that unit. Is there no way to slide the front of the receiver out near the glass so that you have a better angle to it?

I hide all off my equipment and use an ir repeater. It allows you to stick your equipment wherever you want. He is an example:

Our DirecTv remote works through the glass. Maybe you need to slide it closer to the glass? And, we have the same model.

Rames, remote worked thru the glass but you were right, we had it pushed back too far, probably thinking that it would fall out during travel. We moved it closer to glass and it works much better, thanks

Same subject - different question.
I just purchased a Dish Tailgater unit, have been just pulling the coax cable in between the slide out and wall, and letting it hang up to the top of the TV - where I set the receiver.

I have tried the in house plug in the convenience center for the living room. And plugged the coax from the cabinet plug above the TV into the receiver. NO LUCK getting a signal. What am I not doing??

Do I need to disconnect the coax from the house antenna in the cabinet above the TV ??
Thanks

Joe,

It sounds like you're using the cable run rather than the satellite. Satellite doesn't work through splitters or your OTA amplifier. There should be a direct satellite coax run from your convenience center to the entertainment center in your living room. Connect it to your VIP211z and you should be good.

Check out the wiring diagram:

There is no need to disconnect the coax from the house antenna.

Assuming you have the 3 inputs in the convenience center shown on the diagram in the link above (cable, sat 1, sat 2) and you are connected to the correct sat input connector it should work with no modifications. Since it works connected direct to the receiver, if it does not work thru the internal wiring then I would check that wiring. There have been numerous postings about bad/loose connections and/or bad connectors in that wiring.
