Texas to East Coast

We will be traveling from Texas to the East Coast and across to the Great Lake region starting in mid-June. I have us mapped all the way to Albany NY so far and now I'm stuck. Can somebody give me the best route to Boston. I can't tell if Highway 2 out of Albany is really mountainous (is that a word) or not. Would a better route be taking highway 7 which intersects with 9 to Brattleboro, Vermont and then south on I-91. I guess another alternative would be to continue on I-87 out of Albany and take highway 4 across Vermont and New Hampshire and then down south on I-91. Guess yaw'll can tell this Texan don't have a clue. Any help you can give me will be appreciated. Thanks!

I can only tell you what AAA advised us. We will be in Uxbidge, Ma. 17 May. will be there at the USACE at West Hill Dam for the summer. We will be going to just east of Cleveland for the Grand daughters wedding in August and AAA suggested that we take I-90 to Albany then I-86 to Erie, then I-90 into Mentor. We use Hwy 146 to I-90 (about 16 miles east of Sturbridge-8 miles south of Worchester). I-90 is the quickest and fastest(of course it is a toll road in Ma). Ma. has almost as many taxes as Pa. I guess you have a good reason for going to Boston, but for us, we take the train. Last year it only cost us $5.25 round trip from Franklin, Ma. Sure was better than driving. Have a Safe trip. Have a lot of Good Days.

We are new to driving a fifth wheel --

If you want to go direct to Boston -- Stay on The Mass Pike (I-90) --

If you want a scenic route -- Take Route 2 out of Albany -- But, be aware - there is a hairpin turn -- it's been a while since I've crossed, so I am not positive of the turning radius on the turn -- gentler slopes -- I believe the highest elevation is about 1200 feet.

In New York I'm traveling east on I-88 to Albany. How is route 20 over to Mass. state line? The toll on I-90 in New York from Albany to the state line is $9.80 and I'm hoping to avoid that since it's only 38 miles. When in Mass, I'll continue south on Route 20 to hook up with I-90. The tolls in Mass. don't seem to be quite as high as NY.

We have been across 4 through Vermont and N.H. It is a scenic drive and quite pleasant if you aren't in any hurry. Another alternative is to cross into Canada and go to the East coast via Canada. Cross back over in New Brunswick.
