Dump valve handle rods
I'm getting tired of replacing the hollow aluminum rods you supply with the dump valves. Please replace them with solid steel ones. I know other manufacturers do.

Go to the hardware store and get a hunk of threaded steel rod. Not as fancy but it will last!

I bought 1/4" rod, cut it to lenght and threaded both ends--I connected the new rods to the valve with a 1" connector nut and used back up nuts on both sides to keep the connection from turning--I also used loc-tight to help insure no turning--

same here as 8,1AL original rod, but if mine brakes I will move the valve near the dump tube.

I have replaced two of the broken rods with steel ones but I think we shouldn't have to if the proper ones were installed in the first place. I have still to replace the galley tank rod. Fortunately, I can leave it open since I have a valve on the end of the sewer connection.

Our trailer is an 03 and that is one thing that hasn't been a problem.

Thankfully the rods have not been a problem with our 2002 Montana. I didn't realize these things were that much of a problem. Guess we're just lucky in regards to this item.

No problem here either. Remember this though, if we had A number 1 Rated parts all around these things they would not be the best bang for the buck. I'm willing to do a little maintenance and upgrading to make my rig MY rig. With all I have done it is worth more now than I paid for it, of course, I would never get that much out of it. So I remain "upside down" as the saying goes. Such is life!!!! We really enjoy our rig!!!!

Tell you what Phil. I don't think we have Montana's any more. Adding the IS system pushed us up a couple of levels. We are now working with the holding tank manufacturer as we are tired of leaking tanks.
We are working out a way to have them installed properly as per manufacturer's spec's at a shop that can do it properly. Hopefully we can have it done at the rallies in September.

I only have one rod but two cables. I hold my breath every time I pull the handles on the cables.

my black tank rod is bent but not broken (lucky!). Do these rods just screw in? I like the idea of replacing them with the threaded rod stock that I'm assuming you all got at Lowes or HD?

Rich, Haven't had the leaky tank problem yet, except at the Fall Rally year before last when the MorRyde guys put a screw in my gray tank when installing the IS. Keep me posted on what they do about your tanks, for future reference... We're still loving our Montana and haven't grown tired of it yet. Little things creep up from time to time, but nothing major yet.....I do think the IS is a "step up" from the stock suspension and only time will tell if we did the right thing by spending the cash on it. If I was going to be at this years rally, I would really look into that undercarriage storage system, of course that means more weight........Leveling system looks like something I would like to have also, eventually, DW still does a good job while I sit in the truck and move it back and forth when she tells me to. She's a great First Officer, I may make her Captain some day......
