Fender skirt pulling out
I guess the trip from Florida to Illinois wasn't enough for the shake down. First the clothes rod fell and now the left fender skirt has started pulling out from the side. I recall reading on the MOC that this is a common problem and I think I recall most have replaced the screws with nuts/bolts. As soon as we got set up in Phoenix at this CG I located a Home Depot and picked up enough hardware to repair the left side and start replacing all the screws in the skirt on the right side. Can't wait to see what is next. At least I can easily repair all these issues myself so far.

yes nuts and bolts we had to do that on both of our Montana's you may want to use small washers to reinforce the fender holes as the fenders are flimsy and will flap in the wind take a look in the mirror as you are cruising down the road.

I actually picked up three different sizes/types of washers. I am using small lock washers plus a flat washer. Got two different sizes of flats to see which works best.

There are thin metal spring nuts available at Lowes. About $2.00 for a bag full. That or small blocks of wood behind fenders.

Nuts, bolts, and lock washers for us. Then used the touch up paint that came with our unit and painted the screw heads to match.

Would it break Keystone to use something better to secure the fenders. It is a common and ongoing problem. Perhaps they do not know about it.

There were some long bolts hanging down underneath my slide where I took some tie wraps and somehow tie wrapped the skirt to them just enough to stabilize it some. It helped a little on the that side to keep it from flapping. The one on the curb side seemed to be more stabile so must have something to do with it being on a slide...

On the 3402 passenger side there was a bracket about in the middle of the fender that was meant to stabilize the fender. That is the good news however the skilled craftsman completely missed the mark with the screw that was meant to hold it down. First trip popped out 3 fender screws. Little thing...

For those that have done this mod. What size sheet metal flat nuts did you use? I am not sure if I need size #6 or #8

We have had to rework with all four montana units we have owned. Replaced with bolts and washers.

Bingo had a suggestion on a recent thread and so like him and Larry above I put #8 spring clips (sometimes called speed nuts) on mine. Cheap fix and very little effort.

I used 8 32 screws and made L brackets out of 1/4 X 1 inch aluminum to keep the finder skirts from flapping in the wind.

8 is the correct size for the flat nut.

Just did this very thing to ours 3 weeks ago. So far 2 trips and all of the screws are still tight. Tim
