5th wheeler hitch height

Does any know the height for the hitch CW wants $237.. to put the hitch together it’s a B n W campion 25k OEM it’s not rocket science I have a 2019 Ford F350 crew-cab dually 16 , 17 , 18 ??? I ordered a 3930FB any help would be greatly appreciated

That's an easy hitch to assemble. I would set it at mid points and wait to hitch the trailer to see where it rides and adjust from there.

It may require waiting till the trailer is matched to the truck. There is adjustment on the pin box as well as the hitch. I believe the target clearance between trailer and truck bed rails is about 6 inches. But as you pointed out, it ain't rocket science to change it, just ensure you torque it properly.
Oh yeah, and then there's trailer level ride and truck squat to consider.

It's pretty easy to change if they get it wrong; I agree with the first reply; start with the mid setting and go from their.

On my 3711FL attached to a 2500Ram 3/4 ton the mid setting was my huckleberry.

6 inches is the standard, but on ours, I have gone as short as 5, because it levels out the rig more. I would rather pull as close to level as I can. We haven't had any travels as of yet that the 6 inches vs the 5 has made a big difference.
We haven't had the bed rails contact the camper,,,, yet hopefully never!
The newer Fords are built higher and thus creates the dilemma! I'm not sure of the other brands.
We pull with the '17 Ford 250 and like I say, no problems!

Hitch height depend on whether you have a 4x4 or 4x2 and in my case I went from a 4x4 to a 4x2 so I had to raise the hitch to its uppermost position on my Curt hitch (expect similar to you B&W) by determining hitch height as follows:

1. With your trailer on a firm and level surface, set chock blocks in front of and behind the tires. Extend front trailer lifting jacks, adjust as required to set trailer cab level.

2. Measure from the ground to under the trailer's kingpin box skid plate (or lube plate if used). This will be the portion in contact with the 5th wheel's skid plate once coupled.

3. Measure from the ground to the surface of the pickup bed.

4. Subtract the measurement from Step 2 from Step 1. This value will be near the height requirement for the 5th wheel hitch.

Honestly, I had my local trailer hitch guy install it since it required a special torque wrench and I wanted to get it right.

I have 1/2" Drive 50-250 ft/lb eTORK Click-Style Torque Wrench but needed a swivel socket to torque the hitch to the frame, which I did not have at the time. Curt requires torquing all bolts to 100 ft/lb.

My B&W is set farthest front, lowest down and the 5r is still front high.

Clearance between the truck bed and bottom of 5th wheel is the most important factor. Could cost you plenty to repair the damage. Simple math if you know how to use a tape measure and get it right the first time.

I have exactly the same hitch for my RAM. I picked up my hitch in US from Canada. I forgot my tools so I went to Home Depot and bought Myself another cheap socket set and adjustable wrench. I assembled the hitch in about 15 minutes in a fast food car park. Much cheaper than $237. I did the torque settings when I got home. Follow the instructions and start at the highest height setting. Adjust when the trailer is connected and air shocks inflated. Try to get the rig as level as possible maintaining the specified clearance the truck tray by B&W.

Buck Fisher.......may I surmise that you have a 4x4 with a bed that sits high vs. a 4x2 that sits lower.
When I went from a 4x4 to 4x2 recently I had t adjust the hitch from the lowest to highest position.

I installed the same hitch as you in a very similar truck (2019 f450). I started off at the lowest point but then raised it to the middle height where it has been perfect for my 2016 Montana 3160rl.

I went through a similar endeavor 18 months ago. The reality of it is that every situation is a little different. I opted for the middle. Kicked it up when we got the trailer. Put it back down to the middle several months later.

As others have said, start with the middle setting. As long as you have 6" clearance between truck rail and your trailer take off with it. Find a nice level spot and take a good look at how level the trailer is and the rail clearance. Adjust accordingly making sure you maintain 6" clearance over your truck rails.

Yes I do have a 4x4. I didn't think a 2 wheeI drive would be much lower than a 4x4. I have a 2018 SRW 3500 Chevrolet with 265 tires. I haven't owned a 2 wheel drive in the last 30 years or more. I'm only slightly above level at the front of the 5th wheel when parked on level ground. This hasn't caused any problems. I have about 7 inches rise at the hitch and slightly less at the back of the bed when parked on level ground. Upon occasion, I've seen about an inch bed clearance when pulling up onto a raised highway. So far, I haven't drug the rear bumper. I changed the 5er tires to 265 LTs to raise the trailer. They're rated over 3500 pounds each at 105 mph. I feel safe driving the legal speed limit when driving on roads with 1 lane going each direction. It's a lot safer than having vehicles constantly passing in places they shouldn't be.

Both 5er's that I've bought, the dealer installed and set up the hitch at no charge. If you're buying the rig at CW, they should do this. The hitch comes in just two pieces and goes together with just two pins.
