New "Shelf" for the Generators
I finally knocked out a project that I've been wanting to do for months. The front hold next to the batteries is dedicated for installing an onboard generator, but I don't see the point of installing an LP gen. (I'm spoiled from years of gasoline generators on my toy haulers with built in fuel tanks.)
I've got two portable gens that I connect in parallel to give me a 50A connection, but it bugged me to store them in the main cargo hold when I had that unused hold up front.
I thought it would be a simple matter of adding a piece of plywood to form a deck, but the existing shroud was too tiny and wouldn't allow me to fit the gens (too short). I thought it would be easier to remove that shroud, but it was mounted in pretty firmly.
I finally got it out and put in the shelf and some d-ring anchor points for tie-down straps. Now I've got room for the two gens, the parallel adapter, and a couple beach chairs.

Very nice! Great idea! (Those look to be Champion units. We run ours on propane.)

Yep. I always looked down my nose at Champions, but they've come a long way. My wife worked in construction for ages and I always equated Champions with those steel-framed (and LOUD) contractor generators, but these are super quiet and not annoying.
I thought about an LP gen, but this fiver has smaller LP tanks than our toy hauler and I was afraid that the gen would gulp down too much gas and leave us without a furnace or fridge.

Nice modification. Good job.
Just a curious (dumb) question though? Do you run the generators inside that compartment now, or do you take them out and run them on the ground or somewhere else? Just curious?

That's not such a dumb question. I had hoped I could run them in place, but there's just not enough room for them to run and vent the exhaust safely. I have to take them out and run them on the ground.
Plus I need enough room to pull the starter cords.
I want to err on the side of safety though, especially with four GC2 batteries off-gassing right next to the gens.
