what other trailers compare with mountaineer

OK I will admit it, I probably am going to end up buying a used 335RLBS
BUT
before I do this, I want to make sure I have done my homework
and looked at other options.
So I am trying to find other brands / models to compare to , and
its not as easy as say comparing a caravan to a windstar.
So I am starting this thread to try and find out before you got your mountaineer, what else did you find that was close.

My requirements are
1. dry weight and gross weight must be equal or less than 335RLBS
2. length of 32-36 feet
3. MUST have good outside storage (that is where the 335RLBS is more than most competitors.
4. cost must be equal or less than a 335RLBS
5. No Bunks (just a personal option)
6. Prefer double slide outs
7. Good size bedroom and room for each of our teens to have their own bed.

towing with a 2001 Yukon 8.1L 2500 4.10 rear that is rated for 12,000 but I would like dry weight loaded with tanks full less than 10,000

so what I am looking for is for people to email me with brand and model and layout that comes close. I have been looking for a while , and can not find anything that meets all my requirements as well as the mountaineer.

Welcome to the MOC forum. As you can see from my Sig. we are owners of the 335RLBS. We have been TT pullers for about 30 yrs. owning 5 TT's. We are delighted with our RLBS and would buy it again.
You hit on a important point about the storage. I don't think you'll find a comparable TT for storage. The models I may suggest for comparison are, the Jayco Designer 33FBS (available in 04 maybe discontinued 05) and the Cedar Creek 35LRLBS by Forest River. (Bring more $'s with you)
Pay attention to the holding tank sizes as well and watch that tongue weight. You should make sure you have a min. hitch capacity of 1200/12000 lb. rating on your reciever. On the RLBS expect your TT to have 1100+ lbs. of tongue wt. and 10,000+ loaded wt.
I don't know what your Yukon's CGVWR is, but your going to be close to its max. I would definitely weigh the Yukon with full gas tank, add cargo weight and passenger wts. then add 1100 lbs. of tongue wt. and see how close you are to your GVWR posted on door jam.
GM has also done some trick stuff on these SUV's, like Quadra Steer, Automatic Leveling System and Traction Control. Not sure if this stuff is a good or bad thing for TT pulling. Do a search on this Forum. Look up "Rollover" in the Search box at top of page.
Buy a good EQ ( at least 12000 lb) system with sway control. I don't recommend friction sway control for this size TT. Get something better.

We also have the 335rlbs and LOVE it. There is nothing to compare. Actually azstar is right about the potential comparisons. I can tell you that we checked in, under, on top and through innumerable units before settling on the Mountaineer. No regrets! BUT make sure your dealer is a good one - they can make life much much easier as there will be a few minor bugs (regardless of your final choice).

I have the same concern regarding the Yukon as a TV. We researched carefully each and every potential TV and the Yukon appeared (at first sight) to be a potential but it did not make the shortlist. PLEASE don't risk being on the edge of capability - you and yours are much too valuable to risk!
