Rear entry stairs

We have a well meaning neighbor, who told us he would never have a trailer with a rear door entry, because you always have to put a stool underneath the stairs when the trailer is not leveled correctly. Seems they are too high to reach without an extra stool. Has anyone ever had trouble with this?
