Mike and I became aware that we were both starting to have poblems with our Reese hitches not hooking up to the kingpin the way that they used to do. Thought I'd start a new thread to make it easer to find this information in the future.
My 16K - Fifth Wheel Hitch, Reese Product # 30047, used to snap shut around the kingpin when hitching up. Recently, I've had to push on the hitch handle rather vigorously to close the hitch jaws around the kingpin. I also have to apply a lot of force to get the jaws to open when unhitching.
I read the literature that came with my hitch. Reese says to "Use engine oil to lubricate pivot points of moving parts within the hitch.". This is supposed to be done before each trip. This is easier said than done as the interal parts are very inaccessable.
After a search of their web site provided no information, I emailed Reese to see if they have any literature that might provide more details as to the recommended maintence. We'll see what I hear back from them.
