Finally here

Finally – a wannabe no more. The 3400RL is in the driveway.

We drove to Louisville to pick her up this morning. The dealer took about three hours to get the Reese hitch in our truck (plus an hour lunch break). We spent most of that time doing the inspection. The sink covers and the top half of the lazy susan were missing. Other than that, just little stuff that was fixed while we waited. Drove home (110 miles) through a rainstorm; the Montana behaved nicely. The biggest treat of the trip was how easy it was backing up our 450 foot drive. Because of obligations at home, it’ll probably be two weeks before we get to visit a campground. In the meantime, we’ll just pretend in the driveway!

Congratulations to you both on your selection and pickup of the 3400rl model. We are new Rv'ers and love our 3400rl. You mentioned some committments will keep you from going out soon - we had the same situation. So we decided to "camp out" in our backyard and check out everything there first and then we'd know and be ready for the real thing later on. In our case everything worked out good, but had some minor adjustments to make before scheduling our first trip.

Thanks everyone. I’m still kind of in awe of the size. I think I’m still going to need a bit of practice backing. I probably had some beginner’s luck getting it off the street.

We may be able to get out for one night next weekend. There’s a campground not too far from here which we’ve avoided so far because it reminds me of a converted corn field. However, it may be a good first trip with lots of flat space to use backing. Plus, it’s close enough that we can come home to pick up anything we need but far enough to be actually “camping.” (Have to rethink the definition of that word!)

Gene - Carol’s thought about just pulling the lazy susan, too. It’s more an issue of having a choice. She definitely wants the sink covers!

The driveway is nice because it gets us back in the woods where we can keep the Montana. We couldn’t do that in most of the other houses in the subdivision. They’re all up on the street and the deed restrictions would cause a problem. Trailers are not supposed to be visible from the street. Not a problem with a ski boat; but the Montana…. We're far enough from the street that it isn't an issue. Nonetheless, it is a chore to get it back here. Making the ninety into the drive is the worst part. If you ever decide to visit the International Bluegrass Music Museum, stop by and say hello.

Congrats in the 3400. We've had our 5er for just about a year now and are really enjoying it. I have to make a 90 into our driveway also and I've got it down to a two point backup. Sure is a bit easier then the 28ft travel trailer we had. I figured that once I mastered the driveway, the backup sites would be a breeze. Have only had to back it up once and looked like a pro....Hapyy RVing....

Hope you enjoy your new 3400. Good choice! After much discussion on this forum, it appears that there isn't a second level to the lazy Susan on your model as well as our 3380. There isn't room for one because of the larger sinks. We'll probably take ours out, too.
