gate valve

Where do we find a gate valve? Is there another name for it? We looked in our RV part catalog and didn't see anything in there. The gate valve that was suggested near the bottom where dumping occurs, so as to keep from getting messy when the other valve fails.
Thanks

Got one at CW, hubby purchased, not sure of the "technical or correct name". No fancy installation, believe it just screws on.

I tried two local RV stores and they did not have the valve. I guess Camping World is the place.

The reason you are having a problem in finding it at some RV Parts places, is that you are looking for one assembly, you need to buy the parts to make the assembly.
Basically what you need is;
(1) Slide Valve with Gate Seals and it includes 4 bolts
Then you need
(2) 3" pvc waste pipe with Flange
and
(1) I believe it si 3/8" bolt about 3" long.
Remember to dry fit everything first
Take the (2) flanges and clean put PVC cleaner.
Assemble the slide valve and the (2) flanges.
Take the bolt out of the bracket that is holding the 3" sewer pipe.
Take your 3" waste pipe and about 2" in from where your cap coupling is and cut the pipe with a saw make sure you have about 2" or 3" pvc pipe and the cap coupling.
Clean your PVC pipe with cleaner
Take the discharge side flange, put PVC cement on it and the PVC pipe with the cap and glue together.
Then glue the waste pipe and the other flange and put together.
Remember it set very fast.
I have my valve handle facing forward.
Good luck.

To all,
You want to have it permanent, not to stick out any farther than what we have now.
The one mentioned in the post is a add-on.
Chances of twisting off and getting a messy situation.

The proper name for gate valve is waste valve. I find it hard to believe that an rv store would not carry a waste valve but anything is possible. If you want to get a super rv parts catalog I have one for you. The company is Richfield triler supply out of 3 stores in Michigan. You can go online www,richfieldtrailersupply.com or phone 1-800-876-2627 the catalog has 740 pages of stuff.

I built mine, similar to what Carlson describes. But had they at that time had the single piece screw on gate valve I would have bought that. Installation is just like screwing on the dump cap. I don't think it sticks out beyond the tires. The permanently mounted one I added doesn't and it's not been even close to a problem in almost a year of use.
