Thetford Aqua magic 2 GONE!!!

That's it I've had it ,2 months after I bought my Montana in 2012 my Thetford Aqua toilet lever malfunctioned and kept letting water in the bowl and the toilet filled up and flooded my bathroom and down the stairs Keystone sends me a new Toilet no problem, last week same thing happened again same result when we woke up in the morning my wife screamed!!THE BATHROOM FLOODED!! water was all over the stairs and into the underbelly and into the kitchen I'M DONE with that P.O.S. Thetford ,I went to Camping World and on the advise of MOC members bought a Dometic 310 ,Same thing happened to my buddies SOB with the same Thetford toilet 2 weeks ago he did the same and bought a Dometic 310 FYI EVERYBODY!!

Sorry to read about your flood. Good luck getting that mess dried out. Hopefully you'll have better luck with the Dometic.

Yep, that's what we did this past winter. Never let it get to the flood stage, just decided, after friends of ours flooded their entire MH and had thousands of dollar in damage, that the small change for a new Dometic was worth a lot more in peace of mind. Hope you can get it dried out with no permanent damage.

Yep it is drying out ,good thing it is only fresh water because both times the chute was closed and not stuck open so the black tank did not fill up and over and the weather is Warm here in Napa,Ca so that helps the drying process along it is weird my buddy told me he was having problems with his Aqua flush pedal as well and BAM it does the same thing as mine, His SOB said they would send him a new Thetford toilet for it but he said like me NO THANKS and bought the Dometic 310, $170 bucks for piece of mind is worth it

Big sky. I need to understand what happened. It started dripping in the bowl and finally gave way? Could a replacement part have prevented it? What should I look for and understand it's going to fail? Thanks

Oh yeah....same thing happened in last rig so we installed a ball valve at the toilet and turned water off/ on each time....the problem is with low pressure and closing the valve which needs min. 40 psi. So far no issues but I am installing new ball valve this weekend as a precaution.

Yep, our Thetford kept losing the foot pedal so we replaced with a Dometic as well.

Our did the same thing on our 13 big sky and they also sent us a replacement. Now I think we had better be proactive in replacing it with a quality product.

Is it the high profile or low profile and is it a diorect replacement or do they need some plumbing work. They are on sale for 144.57 C.W

If that's the way the toilet works, that sounds like a crappy design. The closer should not have to depend on water pressure to do its job since you can't guarantee there's that pressure. Campgrounds are notorious for low pressure especially when it is full and there's lots of flushing (or other water uses) The closer should be mechanical, not just for dependable operation, but if something goes wrong, there's a part that can be replaced instead of replacing the whole thing (warrantee or not).

Now I better go check our toilet and see what brand before I get this problem. I don't know if we're safe since the rig is over eight years old, but hasn't been used all that much and therefore has not been under water pressure all that long.

here is a Pic of what happens , the pedal will not go back up all the way and the chute closes far enough(or Not) to seal but thee water keeps trickling in and you walk away (or go to sleep) and it floods, when you take the pedal off and look behind it you can see where the spring and other tabs that fit into a series of honeycomb holes and they are made of cheap plastic ,they break or bend so the spring etc.. do not grab or fit into them loosely or break and Yes You buy the Tall profile Dometic 310 only mod you have to make is to use the Thetford Gasket instead of the Dometic and the water line has to bend a "little" to fit ,The Dometic 310 Works SOOOO much betterand it is a skinnier design and fits better too[/URL][/img]

the picture is exactly what ours looked like. The thing is you can't see that side if you take off the bottom panel. Oh well another expense to make these things usable.

There is a little plumbing work to fit the Dometic. Parts from Lowes. I added a shut off and bought a one foot flexible water line (6 inch line would work) that threads onto the back of the Dometic and threads onto the water line where it comes through the floor.

Took about 20 minutes at most to replace.

That has happened to a fair amount of folks, including us. We also installed a Dometic (320) and have been trouble free ever since.

We were lucky, I guess. Our Aqua Magic II had the other problem. The foot lever fell off. It appears to be a force fit install at factory and if it wears and falls off, you can't just push it on and hope it holds. We used bungee cords to hold it on until we could pick up a better model. Ended up with the Aqua Magic Style Plus.

Yeah Chip I will do the same when I get time and put a shut off valve inline but for now the stock line will work you just have to push it back down the hole a little because the water inlet on the Dometic is mounted lower on the toilet than the Thetford and turn the line a little and it screws on

We installed a shut off on our 06 3400.IMO that should be standard.

There have been so many of the same issues with this Thetford design, that I can't believe they still make them and haven't issued some kind of recall. Ours was still under warranty when the pedal flew off late one night, and I decided to just replace the pedal on my own, didn't want to hassle with warranty. Less than 6 months after replacing the pedal, it started binding up, tried to fix it, and decided to save myself the grief and got rid of the piece of junk.

We have a 2013 3150RL. Took delivery September 30, 2013. It was winterized and put under covered storage until April. We spent about 20-25 nights in the coach after retiring in July. Headed south to Arizona in late October. The pedal fell off about two weeks into our winter travels. I have been able to remount it while awaiting a new pedal ($49.04!). The customer service rep didn't wan to talk about the major design flaws apparent with this system. Once I get the new pedal I will pursue adjustment since we took delivery only about 13 months ago.

I cannot believe Thetford can't do better OR that Montana continues to use the Thetford toilets.
