Gate Valves

We came back to the Monty the other night and there was water coming out of the shower on to the floor. I usually leave that gate valve open as the shower, sink and washer is in that tank. I went and checked the valve and the handle was out so I pushed in and pulled it out and nothing drained. So DW bailed all the water out of the shower. The next morning I got a hold of a repair guy. after we got half way through the job of replacing the gate valve they discovered the park system was backing up. the seal on the waste hose was very tight and it pushed the water into the tank and up to the shower. We finished changing the valve which has to be cut out and rubber hoses have to be used to re join the plastic pipe.
The plumber then cleared the blockage in the park system. The park paid half of my bill and for the blockage cleaning.
If anyone tells you S--T does not run uphill tell them they are full of it.

Don,
Sorry to hear about your problem. As to stuff happening..... Well I'm a firm believer that absolutely ANYTHING can happen. Glad to hear the park paid some of your cost. Dennis

Thats a reason I never thought of for having a clear elbow or other clear section on your sewer connection.

Bad idea in general to leave a valve open to the sewer system in the RV park. If you have ever smelled sewer while walking around in the park, it is probably someone leaving the sewer valving open in their RV.
The traps in your RV are designed to keep the sewer gas from coming up into your living space, if you would pipe straight to the sewer tanks, even the gray water tank, it would be stinko.. There is no trap between the sewer system in the RV park and your discharge port you hook up to, so the sewer gas migrates from there up your open valve and up the vent in your RV out into the RV park. Imagine how it would stink in the park if all guests left the valves open.

I use a Sewer Solution system and leave a low spot in the hose for about 10" that holds water in that area I never leave it empty.

You got it covered! Most folks (like me) use the big old nasty hose. Not good to have a dip in them.

Don and Mary Ann. Sorry to hear about all that aggravation. I was going to suggest a return to the simple life of tenting, where there aren't any gadgets to fail. Then I saw the list of gadgets in your signature. You're hooked buddy . There's no going back!
