Discounts on new Montes

Not really in the buying mode yet, just browsing web sites.

Looking at campingworld.com and advertised prices on new Montanas most of them are listed at 30%-32% off the posted MSRP. About the same % off on some other sites as well. Is that about what you guys buying new ones are paying? Or are these units on the lots they are really trying to move?

And for you who have ordered new, can you get the same % off if you special order as opposed to buying off the lot? I know they like to move the stock on hand, but ordering one costs no overhead and little risks with money down.

In our experience it depends on time of year. This is the buying season so dealers are more reluctant to deal. Buying a left over rig at the end of summer or ordering in the winter works better because the dealer doesn't see you as one of a line of willing buyers.

I bought my '13 last November, near Thanksgiving. It was the last of the '13's at my dealer (In my particular model) and I got a HUGE discount from the price they were selling them for the prior spring and summer season.

We bought ours in the fall of 2008. With all the bells and whistles it was $98K. We got better than 30% off. It was a factory order, not sitting on the lot.

Because of the hard winter and shutdown of plants, there is a short supply of new units. Because there was no work, delivery drivers took other jobs. Now their is a shortage of drivers and a backlog of deliveries. We are very short on inventory and hoping for deliveries. We are the #3 CW store on the delivery list and are beginning to see some trickle in. We are still competitively pricing Montes. We will meet or beat any dealers price.

Ours was discounted when purchased in January, 2014 (for a 2014 model). The discount was right at 25% MSRP and they gave us several thousand more for our trade than we paid for it. In my mind it was the same as getting over 30% off on a no-trade deal.

Ordered ours in March 2012 from a CW show. Nearly all the toys, no gen, slide toppers or awning cover, not Big Sky. Just over $58,000. No trade in. Ordered a 2012, became a 2013 before it was built. Interestingly enough, Hannah was built on Friday the 13th! I don't recall MSRP.

We bought ours in late August "09". Over 50% discount off the price for the same unit that we looked at in the early spring of "09". (It was sitting on a dealers lot and had been in stock at the dealer for about 6 months)

Also remember that each quarter dealers get factory rebates. Hit it just right, with the right unit and you will save. Bust you can't negotiate a deal and not have the money. Either cash or loan secured. I saved 44% off true MSRP on my 3750. I was just offered 40% off an SOB unit by factory rep. Even with several custom features, like heated tiled floors being added. I believe the market is not as healthy as some believe. I am not ready to trade right now. We love our rig and it's floor plan! That said, I would shop nationwide and ask 37-40% off, if I were shopping. Also remember to get extras in original deal, (slide toppers, hitchs etc.) or be prepared to pay retail!

It's all smoke & mirrors anyway. The dealer sets the MSRP to what ever he/she wants it to be.

We bought ours from Tiara. 41% off list. 2014 3150RL bought May 13.

Note: Tiara Service Department SUCKS........They never hooked it up to water. The toilet would not hold water, got Thetford to send me the parts, I fixed it. They wanted to order a whole toilet. Entry door would not shut. Wanted to order a complete new door. I told them to get a rubber hammer and bend the rain gutter up. That fixed it. Battery wires hand tight, wet bolts would not take grease, I fixed it.

Bottom line, if you buy from Tiara you need to be handy and like to fix stuff.

I am handy. And like to fix stuff. But not on something brand new. But they are too far from me to really consider anyway. There are a number of Montana dealers within a reasonable drive from here.

But the pricing information really helps me plan for negotiations when I do get serious and get some competitive bidding.

Bill, consider going to nadarv.com and plugging in your current rig to get an idea on its value. It will give you another element of what kind of costs you'll have when purchasing a new one. Options and rig packages play a part too in the negotiating stage. Good Luck. Dennis

MSRP's in the RV industry are unregulated and dealers can post any price they want, therefore; it's a useless figure. We bought ours through a wholesaler in Michigan. We easily saved over 6K from what other dealers marketed as "heavily discounted". In fact, we found one RV show discount, on the same unit, priced at over 20K more. Point is, you need to do a little research. People buy on impulse and apparently, there are many that do. We've been to a CW and the same model is substantially more, even after all their "specials" and "great deal discounts". I don't suggest you pit one dealer against the other, because that only causes negative feelings and if you need service sometime, they'll remember you. In our case, we asked them what the bottom line was and then moved on, like a closed bid. In the end, there were 3 dealers, all within $150 of the bottom line. I graciously thanked the two I didn't chose, and said I'd be back in a few years with another chance to win my business. BTW, the wholesaler we used had an awesome service department and not only were they knowledgeable, but they were very gracious.
