Satelite Hook up

Have any of you hooked up a dual receiver needing two feeds from the satelite to the receiver? If so, since we have only one connection, where did you bring the second cable into the receiver?

We will have a Dish 500 connected to a 625 dual receiver?

Also, is a aiming device and signal strength device needed?

Good question....looks like technology is ahead of the RV industry. It has been discussed before and I do not remember anyone answering the question if the they solved it. I have a 301 and a 311 receiver and can hook up either one of them to a Dish 500 dish with a single coax. As far as what you need to help locate the satellite is a good level, a compass and satellite finder that you can get from Camping World. Locating peak angles to set the dish can be located in the menu.

Unless they changed the cable coming into your camper in the last 2 yrs, you will have to run a cable from outside in. I drilled a hole thru outside wall into t. v. cabinet & put a connector there for satelite. I think they put R G 59 cable in from factory & you need R G 6.

We have the 3400, and I brought the cables for the DirecWay Internet dish in through the floor of the computer desk slide as close to the outside wall as I could. I ran two cables, without the connectors, through from the inside, installed connectors on them, and attached them to a grounding block. It keeps the connectors clean and makes an easy installation.

What you might be able to do is to replace the single satellite input with a dual input and pull two cables through the wall in place of the one that's there.

I had the service install another satellite connection outside. He had to remove the tv and fireplace to install another but now I can watch cable in bedroom and/or living room and satellite in bedroom. Hope this helps.

The new montana and Mountaineers are being wired from the factory with the RG-6 cable.

Can you get a picture from dish if you connect thru the RG59 factory installed cable connection outside? I have to run the RG60 thru the door direct to box to get reception. I have been trying to decide how to run the cable thru wall or floor and where is the best place?

You need to use RG-6. from the dish to the receiver..Google RG-6 or RG-59 or www.howstuffworks.com to understand why instead of getting incorrect information from those who mean well but are uninformed .

For short distances, typically 50 feet or less (and I wouldn't be concerned about twice that much), there's virtually no difference between good quality rg-59 and rg-6 (there's a little more signal loss in rg-59, but not enough to make any difference). The choice should be determined more by how much external interference there is (how many shields do you need), what kind of environment is the cable in (outside or inside), and what kind of connectors (standard or sealed) do you need.

I agree. Though some may say you can use RG-59, don't do it. Use RG-6.

It is not only the signal loss that is of concern..there is a voltage present on the sat hookup that RG-59 is not designed to handle.Yes you can get a picture using RG 59 you may also get some degree of EMI..again do some homework on the difference between the two, find out why RG-6 is the desired cable to use ..then.. use whatever you wish...

Sounds like RG6 is the cable to use which means I will have to run the cable direct to the box. I am looking for suggestions on how to run the cable thru the wall or floor when the TV is located in a slide out. Thanks for replies. We have a 3295RK.

I installed an exterior connector on the outside of my entertainment slideout. I installed a feedthru connector in the back wall of the entertainment center. I connected between the inside of the exterior connector to the input of the feedthru connector with a 3 ft piece of RG-6 (Radio Shack) I then routed the excess cable around the interior wall of the slideout. (My slideout is half entertainment center on the inside and half storage on the outside.) On the inside of the entertainment center, I connected another 3 ft piece of RG-6 from the feedthru connector to the input of my DirecTV receiver. This has worked for me for four years.

Thank you for the answers and suggestions. I now will be able to experiment when we get to Texas next month.

This factory told me my 2005 Montana is wired with RG-6. They also said I would have to drill through the wall to get my second cable through the wall.

All this talk about rg-6 versus rg-59 or any other coax is hog wash. We are dealing with 18v dc in an rv mind you not a space ship. I am a ham radio operater, retired A.T.T. tech support manager and if its coax, you can use it for short jobs in an rv. The only property that the rg-6 has is that it costs more. I have ran rg-62 (old data cable) to my neighbors house 300 ft. away for a test with no amp and worked fine with no signal degredation.

Another thread that seems to be getting a bit touchy. If you want to use RG-5x or whatever, then do it. The satellite industry recommends RG-6 and it does work the best. Every technician in the world has his/her own opinion on these types of things. We've just about beaten this dead horse all we can.

Don and Judy K:

To get back to your ORIGINAL question, I too have DishNet with dual tuner receivers & have been battling both DishNet & my installation. The bad part is that you DO need two coax cables (RG-6, NOT RG-59) coming from your DishPro 500 dual LNB, else you will get constant errors from your receiver. I have been (unsuccesfully) trying to get DishNet to swap one of my dual tuners for (2) single tuners so that I would only need one feed into the coach. The only recourse is to find & buy a new or used 301 for permanent use in the coach & pay DishNet $5.00/mo extra for the programming.

If anyone else has a better solution, I too would love to hear it...

I was getting a good TV signal at the last campground with thier cable system and now I get no signal from my new dish unless I run it through the door. I am assuming that the factory RG cable will not carry the satellite signal???

The problem is interference between the satellite input at your rig's cable TV input. The cable TV line is also connected indirectly to the amplifier for your rig's antenna. That's why you get a good signal on your satellite when you run the cable directly in. Look at some of the previous posts that describe what some of the people have done and I think you may get some ideas of what to do. It's definitely something that anyone who is the least bit handy to do. I wouldn't pay to have it done.

The lna puts out 13V, put a duplex coneector from your dish 500 and just run 1 rg6 cable, if you will only run 1 reciever.
