Spare Tire
We have a new 2013 3750FL that the spare tire keeps coming loose. Every time we stop, we have to crank it back up into place. Not sure if there is a way to secure it, anyone know?

Some remove it and carry it in truck bed, others use a ratchet-type strap to supplement the crank up system by strapping the spare to frame members. Bad part of the strap is it requires you to crawl beneath the rig partially to get the spare loosened unless you can situate the ratchet close to the edge somehow. It is a common problem.

I cured this issue by drilling a hole through the crank pipe extension and holding strap near where the crank handle is placed and use a small (1/8" diameter) pen though the hole. Works great and we can crank up at half-turns as tight as we wish then place the pen in hole and tire stays in place.

Others have replaced the crank mechanism itself with a better one.

Went with the ratchet strap. If you do, place the strap diagonally, so the strap is not straight front to rear. If/when you are on uneven locations, where the spare might drag the pavement/ground slightly, if the strap is front to rear, the strap will wear rather quickly.

I have thought about drilling a hole and using a steel pin to hold it in place via a strap. With all the wonderful things that Keystone puts in the Montana, it is hard to believe so many minor things do not get addressed. Things like the small, rubbery line that holds the sewer cap when it is not on the pipe. One bite from our puppy and its broken, should have been a small, steel cable. Or the step light only coming on when the large outside flood light is turned on.

Years ago, I read a post on this and the recommendation was to secure the spare with some rope as a safety harness. I have never had a problem with the spare coming loose but I feel secure that the added rope harness is there, just in case.
