Converter/Charger and AGM Batteries

Wanted to replace our flood acid batteries with AGM's. Is the converter/charger in the Monty's a staged charger? Will it optimize AGM battereis?

An AGM battery can actually be charged faster than a flooded or gel battery. They do not like overcharging so it is important that the charged get to float quickly. I see no reason that the charger in the converter of the new Montys' should not work just fine. They are 4 stage chargers.

I have AGM's, no problems. Jumper H4 in installed for Gel Cells; do not install it for AGM's.

Hi

AGM=Absorbent Glass Mat

They are still a lead acid battery but doesn’t gas like a flooded battery when being charged.

We put them in equipment that is designed so that batters are hard to get to without machine disassembly without making any change to the charging system.

The H4 jumper stays in place for AGM's according to the Progressive Industries manual. ( The manufacturer of your breaker box/converter)

Interesting. Can you reference that portion of the manual?

My manual only mentions gel cells, not AGM's.

I contacted Progressive Industries tech support last year about this issue.

I stand corrected. What I remember when I switched from lead acid to agms is that the jumper jumper remained unchanged while for gel cell its position had to be changed.

Not sure who you are asking, but I did not change chargers when going to AGM batteries.
