I stayed at the Thousand Trails park and could not breathe. Sites were TOO close together. We did find a nice place out of town called Valley of the Fires State Park, they had some new sites but it is very rural. Large park with no amenities but a beautiful place. We geocached around the park and it was breathtaking to be on top of some of the rock formations seeing the surrounding area below. If you don't stay there, at least make it a day visit, you wll enjoy it. North out of town.

We stayed at Sam's Town last time we were out there. Pretty nice place, with amenities on site and a shuttle to the strip. I wouldn't recommend Circus Circus, like a supermarket parking lot.

I vote for Oasis as well. We haven't stayed there but our Brother and family did and we visited a couple of times. It was nice, gorgeous and open. A true Oasis in the middle of Sin City.
We are 1000Trails members and stay there because there are no overnight costs for us, but we don't particularly care for it. The sites are so close together, good luck getting the awning out and your slides clearing some of the trees (or your neighbors), but what do you want for free (plus the cost of membership). The staff is also very rude in comparison to any other 1000trails CG we stay at. I think they are instructed to be intolerant of any potential trouble and will stop by to remind you (they treat you as a bad person first, a nice guest second).
Also stayed at Circus Circus KOA but it is completely paved (not very nice looking - ditto on scattershot's description, LOL). Your view is the back of a Casino. But the staff tries very hard to keep everyone in line in a nice way. I wish the KOA folks would teach the 1000Trails folks how to treat people. I think it's overpriced but you can't beat their location smack in the middle of most Casinos.

We stay at Sam's Town about twice a year. It's fine for our needs and is right around the corner from family so convient for visits. Just made our reservations for Thanksgiving.

Sam's Town and Oasis are both nice, one on either side of Vegas. Avoid Arizona Charlie's just up Boulder Highway from Sam's; too crowded.
