tire suggestions for dually

Looking for input on tires for the truck. As in the signature, it is an 08 Chevy Dually 4X4 pulling an 06 3400RL. The original tires are General Grabber LT225/75R17. Very rare off-road or mud running but would decent traction in the rough. Not much snow here in Florida.

Are these generals ok to stick with or is there a better choice?

Thanks in advance,

Alan

This is a very popular topic. There is another thread on this same area with lots of info:

The general consensus seems to be Michelin is the way to go, but lots of other opinions, too. We have the Generals and we'll be getting rid of them as soon as po$$ible.

Michelins would be great, However, they do not come in the LT225/75R17 size. General and Firestone are your only options if you want to stay with the same size. I just bought 2 new Generals for the front of my '08 3500. I only got 30k out of the originals. Still running on the original rears. Not sure what I will do when they go. Not happy about GM's choice of wheel and tire size........

You might look at Toyo, if we had kept the Chevy Dually thats what I would have tried. You will have to go up one size. They are cheaper than Michelin. They were recomend to me by a man from my home town. Don't know how good they are, but when I replace the 22.5's thats on our freightliner thats what I intend on trying. Good Look with your choice. I have used Michelin's on most all of my Truck they are excellent tires but expensive. My Chevy 3500HD dually had 22,000 miles on the OD when I sold it and I would have put new tires on in Oct before our winter trip and they would have been Toyo's. GBY....

Goodyear also has an offering under their Wrangler SilentArmor (offers kevlar belts), but I don't have any history or knowledge versus the General Grabbers or Firestone Transforce (?). I mention it so you can scout around for information on your options.

Art, I went to the Goodyear site and they say they do not have a tire in size 225/75/R17E. Perhaps you could enlighten me as to where you found them???? I am looking for a comparable replacement also, but was trying to stick to the original size, but am afraid I will have to get bigger ones.....

Our Dodge has General Ameritrac 235/80r17's and so far so good, I keep'm pumped up and rotate everyother oil change. Would like a little heavier tread pattern though as I pick up nails and screws(plumbing supply house) on a regular basis. Steve

Delaine and Lindy--BTW what a nice M2, why would you even need a rv to tow, you could just go camping in the M2. My guess grovable tires?

It looks like the Firestone Transforce HT won.
I called Michelin and they said they had no replacement to fit and my local dealer suggested these over the Generals.

Thanks for the input from everyone.
