How to travel into Canada with dogs
How and what do I need to do to get into Canada with my dogs. Heard that they can quarantine them for up to 30 days, is this true? I do have them up on all shots and have all there papers in order. Any other information would be helpful. I have 3 Bassett hounds with on being a puppy.

When we crossed into Ontario from Port Huron, MI a couple of years ago, we had the dog in the back seat of the pickup where she always rides--She is a big dog, 85 pounds, and looked out the window at the Canadian official. He asked not a word about the dog, or the trailer except the usual questions to any visitor.
Of course, we had all the vaccinations and papers with us. You should absolutely have that. But I'm just saying, we had no difficulty associated with the dog going into Canada or back into the USA.
Just be sure to read the regulations and requirements on the official Canadian site.

Our experience was exactly the same as padredw. Never a question ask either direction. I think if you have their vaccination records you will be fine. Jim

As Canadians we have gone the other way into the United States and then back to Canada probably 50 times or more with two dogs. We always had our registration papers but more importantly proof of rabies shots and our vet each year would print off a Certificate of Health guarantee. Once the border agents glanced at our paper work they decided our dogs were better cared for than most people!!!

We are on the Canadian side and travel with our dog back a forth to the US many times a year.
As was stated have an up to date rabies vaccine and certificate from your vet stating the dog is in good health, you should have no trouble.
The only time I've seen a hold up if the boarder crossing guard feels the dog or dogs are being mistreated or look in poor health.
I'm sure that wont be your case
Cheers

When going to (coming from) Alaska, we had to dump some hamburger or such too in addition to fruit.

Last time and it has been a while they made me dump all fruit and firewood. Left it at a gate right by the border entry. Like a fruit fly wouldn't fly north. Go to that link for latest info on what you can and can't bring in.
