Cambridge Fever - revisited

Many of you will rememb er a thread I ran last spring when we got Cambridge fever. Well, We had a relapse and Tt stuck this time. I made a deal this afternoon. We will own a new Cambridge next Thursday. We plan to continue as MOC members if that is OK with you all.

In the mean time, we plan to continue towing with our 2003 GMC 2500 HD. I realize we are at spec limits in several dimensions however, I have great confidence in this truck and plan to tow all the way to Belize in January and return via the central Highlands of Mexico.

Congratulations on your new purchase. That is a very fine 5th wheel. We believe it is the step above the 3400RL that we own. Just a lot more eye candy. It is a beautiful trailer. Hope you enjoy it. Lots more room from the one that you own now right.....Kathi

Dave and Victoria, congratulations! That is truly a beautiful rig. We looked at a couple of them and found the rig to be several steps up in quality of build, materials, etc., etc. Definitely a keeper. Your planned trip sounds fascinating. Be sure to keep us current on the trip as well as your new rig. As far as I am concerned you folks are family and belong right here.

Congratulation on the new rig. I have not seen one in person, but the on-line data looks great. We are very happy for you guys.

Good luck with your new Cambridge,we are also interested in trading our 2003 3280rl for a Cambridge but are concerned about the add'l weight. I'll be watching your posts for information.

We picked up the Cambridge Last Thursday. It took us two days to unload and three days to reload. There is a lot more volume but the storage strategy is different. So far, we are extremely pleased. Everything is a plus except the computer desk which we realized before we bought.

It is definitely heavier. It is a good thing we have airbags on the truck as it sagged a good three inches before I pumped the bags up. We are carrying 75 psi in the bags. The rig is a dream to pull. The Moryde suspension and hitch pin really work great. We towed over the same stretch of I-75 construction with the 3295 and the Cambridge so the evaluation was fair. Honestly, the truck ride was better with the Cambridge hooked up than even alone.

On the first 500 miles we are getting 11.3 mpg at 68 mph -- exactly the same as we got pulling the 3295.

We are on the road now but will have some time in the next week or so to do a better review and post som pictures.

Dave, I'm curious about towed weight on the Cambridge when loaded as you have it. Have you had an opportunity to put it on a scale?

I am also curious about the weight. If you haven't weighed it yet you should. You might be all right with the weight but better safe than sorry.

Sharon & Bob,
We are planning to be at the rally. New grandbaby due in September could upset plans but most likely will not.

Steve,
No chance to weigh it just yet but, I am fairly sure we are a shade over trailer gross. When I had everything unloaded, it was all stowed in a 12 x 12 screen tent. The stack was about 3 feet high so I had roughly 430 cubic feet. Figuring 30 pounds per cubic says it is around 1400 pounds. That would bring us very close to 17,000 pounds.

Congrats on the Cambridge. What is not to enjoy? The downside of trading in your rv is the unloading of the old and loading the new. When we traded to the 2955 we were soooo excited but we spent a whole day just moving all the stuff we had stowed away and we are not even fulltimers yet!

Dave,

Whew, that's a pretty good load. I'll be watching your reports with interest as to whether you have to go to a bigger truck. We also would like to take a tour of your new Cambridge at the Reno rally. I see you folks plan to be there. So be prepared...

We'll be prepared for Reno. It's fun to show off a new rig.
