Residential Refrigerator

A third Samsung residential refrigerator has been installed, under warranty, & like the previous two the freezer is -15 to -20 degrees with the temperature set at +8 degrees. Has anyone else having this problem? I would recommend putting a thermometer & check your freezer. Double checked my thermometer with home refrigerator which checks good. Dealership that has changed it twice is baffled. Samsung what is going on?

So did you witness the install and make sure that the required spacing behind the fridge was done by there being rigid foam blocks installed on the back of the fridge or on the back wall of the enclosure. This sounds like the unit is not installed per manufacturer specs and the electronics is getting overheated or starved for air however you wish to think of it.

Unfortunately did not witnessed the installation. What I am seeing, it was installed correctly due to the mounting hardware to the walls. Will do more research on spacing.

I know this will not help you but ask any appliance repair guy what the worst brand of appliances are and I bet most if not all will say Samsung and LG. IMHO they are both garbage.

It has been said, if they make cell phones you probably don't want there appliances.

When you see multiple failures in the same rig, it is probably not the fridge, but the install by keystone causing the issue. Either because keystone didn't install with the required spacing behind AND blocks to maintain that spacing or the inverter install is causing damage to the electronics in the fridge. I don't buy three fridges going bad on their own in the rig unless the dealer is not changing out the fridge and just saying they did. Op - have you verified new serial numbers on these three fridges? If so, then you are back to either the install not being to specs or your fridges are being damaged by the inverter which could be because keystone did not install a pure sine wave inverter or the inverter is not putting out clean power and causing the damage. I doubt dealers are equipped to measure the cleanliness of the power out of the inverter with an oscilloscope. And any dealer that just swaps out three fridges is not helping you out.

It appears spacing. Unit should have 4 inches in back, only have one. Kestone is installing these units without the correct spacing. Can't pull unit out further due to legs sitting on the edge of slide. All three units have different serial numbers. Will check inverter.

Bill, when I did my conversion from norcold to the samsung, I made the base that it sits on and I had to add two 3/4 inch poplar boards to the front of my base because my front feet also hung off the edge of my base with the proper spacing behind it. I also glued blocks on the back of the fridge to make sure I maintained the spacing. Hope this all works out for you.

As stated earlier, problem solved. Ice maker off. The Samsung Refrigerator was the only one of that size that would fit in the space. Loved to have gone with another brand.

This is my last response to this issue.

I'll stack a Samsung or LG refrigerator up against any Whirlpool, GE, or Frigidaire. Anytime. Any day. I work in the residential refrigerator repair service industry for 40+ years. I could not say this 20 years ago since, in the beginning, both LG and Samsung were new players and totally without support. The South Korean made Samsung has great support today although not all of them are made in SK. IMHO, the best frig is the Amana which got screwed up by Maytag and then Maytag got blitzed by Whirlpool. Whirlpool until recently had a refrigerator that was an Amana under the skin. Best unit ever out there.

When in doubt, read the directions

Dealership should have looked in the manual. It clearly states the freezer will go to -15 when making ice and the first batch will take up to 24 hours.
I've had zero problems with my Samsung and love it.
