Beware of camping buddies pulling it out when you're on site, as a practical joke. I've heard stories. Not here, though.

So everyone agrees it didn't get spit it out it pulled out.
I've never heard of one being spit out although I suppose it could happen if the mechanism that holds it in place fails for some reason.

Thanks steve, Like I said my dash said electric failure in trailer so I hope electric failure in the trailer didn't cause it to come out. I hope it just got caught and pulled out. follow me?

Although it controls the electric brakes, the unit itself is mechanical. Short of being hit by lightening, there's nothing electrical that would cause it to pop out. It has to be pulled out, either by a trailer separation, the cord getting caught on something, or someone pulling it out.

Our cable got caught between the hitch and bedrail and pulled out. Re-routed the cable and have had no problems since.
