removing air conditioner

just wondering, we have 2 air conditioners and we never use our front one over the bedroom. The back one works fine for the whole trailer. How easy is it to remove the unit and put in a normal roof vent. And will it screw up the thermostat which is a digital. wondering about all the wiring

I personally would not do that and just keep the front AC in place. Nice to have backup if/when you lose the back AC unit. Interesting question (no answer from me!) on the digital thermostat.

If the front is zone 2 you can remove it with no issues. It is just disconnecting wires and 4 bolts that compress the gasket to the inside plate. It should not affect the thermostat if you disconnect the correct wires.

You will have issues installing a roof vent in the hole that was cut for your air conditioning unit. Wrong size, wrong shape.

Bottomline.....don't even go there. You'll create a bigger issue trying to fill the hole.

Yep. If you remove that front A/C. I guarantee you'll be sorry...you'll be some where really really hot and will need that front AC. We bought a motor home that had three A/Cs....I thought the third was over kill....until we got to south Texas.

If you want a vent, just add one behind the front AC....

This is the repurposed kitchen vent I relocated when I added the 3rd AC.

Year and model of your trailer would help

Here's my take, we've never had an issue with having one unit until recently. Normally we would be north by now and were planning on being in Oregon on the coast. Because of the Covide19 issue our reservations were cancelled and we stayed in Quartzsite. One unit doesn't even come close to cooling the rig. Running from about 8 in the morning until midnight we're if we can keep temp inside below 90 from noon until 7pm. My point you never know when you might need it.

Two are barely enough in some conditions. I added the third AC after that revelation.

Send a message via AIM to northern lights
As soon as you remove the AC, the other one will quit working. Guaranteed to happen when you are on the road.

Could be a very expensive fix IF something isn't 100percent sealed.

I completely agree with "you never know when you need it". If you ever decide to come to the South East--Md down thru Fla...you must have 2 ac's maybe 3.

It's your rig, do with it what you want to do to make it yours.

We are in a similar position as another reader. We have a 3820FK 2017 with 2 13500 AC units and are struggling to keep it below 80 inside with the outside upper 90s and higher, especially in direct sunshine. Didn't think we would need the 2nd AC, now stuck in high desert in late April going into May, damn it's hot and glad we have 2 ACs running 10am until 6pm.

Shut off the breaker for this unit. Remove the inside cover and unplug the wiring . Cap off the power wires. Remove the 4 bolts going to the roof unit.
The opening is 14 1/2 inches as all are. This is the same size on a roof fan. Use the old power wires to hook up the new fan. Tuck the thermostat wires back in the ceiling.
Getting the old unit down off the roof is the hardest part.
Good luck

We have a 2015 Big Sky Montana 3725 RL we are in Orlando as the temperatures are 90 to 95 degrees. We have two air condition from the factory I wish I could put a third one in. From 12:00 noon to about 9 p.m. both air conditioners are running Non-Stop and it only cools down to about 77 to 80° degrees. At night once it gets down to temperature the air condition might come on once or twice through the night do not take out that second air condition you will be sorry 😐 if you take it out and you go somewhere where is above 90 degrees

When you are ready to sell or trade-in your Montana the second AC is a must-have to any potential buyer.
