Carpet saver

Has anyone tried or using carpet saver in thier units. By carpet saver, I mean the thin plastic with a light adhesive ,they sell at Lowe's, etc. We have used only on steps into bedroom. I was wanting to know if you could use on areas that the slides retract over? Will the slides pull it up from floor, tangle in slide, etc.? How long do you leave it down? (1 trip, all summer) And finally, has it hurt your carpet in anyway, as I noticed it was pretty hard to pull up? We have used Scotch Gaurd, but we have a Labrador who doesn't know how to wipe her feet when she comes in.

Interesting thought, nope, we use throw rugs, and carpet cleaners. The 4 yorks don't wipe their feet either, but I have a feeling that a Lab could get in a bit more mess than the yorks. I do wipe their feet if they are muddy or really wet. I wonder about the carpet saver getting stuck in the slides, and my first reaction is YEP, it would. As we are part timers, not full timers, we do have the option of coming home, getting the carpet cleaner out of the house and cleaning away. I do once or twice a year, depending on where we have been and the weather and dirt conditions.

I did have one of those carpet protectors to use under a desk chair, it was there for 8 years?? give or take, and when I moved it to another area of the room it left a "clean" or "brigher" spot, that even after a good carpet cleaning did not change.

We use the sticky plastic - just in the area right inside the door. You know that dog just won't wipe her feet! Anyway, we get it from camping world and a roll last a long time. We have to pull it up and replace it about once a year. I think it is very worthwhile.

We use a 6 x 9 carpet in our unit to protect the carpet. http://community.webshots.com/album/260854297iKdJpz It just rolls up and we put it in front of the hide-a-bed when we put the slides in and out and when we travel. It stays put. Our son Mark and the other two kids are in the pic.

it does work, but will not fade with the rest of your carpet...then looks terrable later!

I use the old fashion plastic runners with those little terrible pointy thingys to hold it in place (ouch if you've ever stepped on one)

Years and years ago I worked for a carpet store. All the big carpet guys (salesmen from factories) said to never put down plastic or even throw rugs as it wears down the fibers on the carpeting. I know it is hard when you have pets and children. But they said carpet cleaning is a lot less dangerous for the fibers than anything laid on top.

I had always heard that cleaning the carpet was bad for it as it broke the fibers down. Thanks, I learned something new.

Thanks for the heads up. My carpet is very light, beige, and with using it for horse shows I prefer to have whats on the bottom of my shoes on the plastic verses on the carpet. I HATE my carpet, wish it was darker. Maybe an upgrade is in my future?

I have also heard the same thing from carpet professionals. I do however use the plastic on my steps. After a couple of trips I replace it with new plastic. One flooring professional told me the glue will get on the carpet from the plastic, but after 3 years of doing it this way, there is no glue and no fading. Carpet on the steps look like the day we got the fiver.
