Rand McNally or Magellan GPS anyone
Does anyone have the new Rand McNally7710 or 5510 or the Magellan 9165T GPS that is specifically for RVs? My question is whether I can toggle between RV routing and auto routing for navigation purposes. Once I drop the Monty, I don't want to be restricted to RV routing for my normal driving.

I have the new Rand McNally 7710 and I love it. It is so easy to use and I love being able to tailor it to my 5th wheel. No more worrying about low bridges. Speed monitor is very nice. Traffic monitor is great too. All told, I would buy another one in a minute. I love my Rand McNally 7710. I hope this helps with your decision.

I'm mulling over two units to replace my old Garmin. I'm weighing the Good Sam 7" RVND7725 GPS Powered by Rand McNally
vs Magellan Roadmate RV 9365t-lmb.
I'd appreciate any input on those units. One of the things I don't like is the Garmin doesn't like it when I change my route while enroute if I found a better way. It really doesn't like it and will try and force me back on to it's original route.
Thanks in advance!
Happy Thanksgiving to all!

You might want to look in the Navigation section below.

I believe the 55 series is a 5" screen and the 77 series is a 7" screen.

I have the 5510 and, as a GPS, it works fairly well. There are places where it gets lost. The problem I have had is the update software. I have never got it to work after many long and frustrating tries. And, I am reasonably computer literate.

I have the Rand McNally 7720 and absolutely love it. Check under the navigation topic: http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=51598 to read many posts about this unit. It's user friendly, can be set for car or RV, you can set RV parameters (height, weight, length, propane capacity, etc). And you can pick and choose road preferences. It advises when you approach a toll booth, cross state boundaries, warns you of sharp curves ahead, hills ahead....all kinds of neat stuff. And it's easily updatable over the internet. It comes with free lifetime map updates. Personally, I highly recommend the RM 7720.

I also have the Magellan GPS marketed through Camping World with Good Sam specifically for RV's.
I've used it for the past two years for navigation in my F-250, first with a travel trailer, and now with my Monte. I has served me well and kept my out of trouble, but occasionally it will detour me much farther than truly necessary, but those are few and far between.
I love all the feature of the GPS that are RV related, it knows where all the campgrounds/RV parks are, even if they're not Good Sam locations. All the RV repair facilities are also listed. Plus a host of other quick finds like fuel, groceries, and restaurant (by the type of food one is interested in).
You set it up according to your rig's weight, width, and length, and the routings will take all of that into consideration. I also like the feature where I can avoid toll roads, since I've discovered that these things can cost up to $1/mile with a truck and big trailer.
The screen is 7" big, large enough for my old eyes to see it easily.
I have a Tom Tom auto-based GPS previously and it got me into trouble with height and weight limits, especially traveling on the Long Island turnpike - a nightmare!
The best bet is to take a look at the models the pique your fancy and then make an intelligent decision, including the best price.
On a side note, we also use the GPS features of our iPhone when we're not actually pulling the trailer. There are plenty of applications that will make your travel much better, like Waze, Glympse, Speed Box, and of course, Gas Buddy,.

regardless of which one you chose don't just blindly follow it or you will be lead astray. It is good to look at a map before you leave on any particular route.
For example I was going from Chico, CA to LA and when I left Sacramento on I5 it kept wanting me to go to Hyw 99. It kept this up until I was almost to Bakersfield. When I left LA coming back north it had me go up I5 with no mention of 99. Go figurel

I've had the Garmin RV 760LMT for about about 6 mos now and am really happy with it. 7" screen and lists camp grounds, CW's and much more. Glad to see Garmin finally came out with a unit for RVing.

I have always been a Garmin fan. When they came out with the RV760LMT, I bought one. I agree with Neil statement above. It is a real nice unit.

Ditto on being a fan of the Rand 7720. It is easy to change the setting from "RV" to regular driving. I have been using mine for almost a year and need to update the map, but so far everything has been up to date (5 or 6 states). I got the little visor that helps somewhat with sun glare.

I have the Rand 7720 and the 7710. We like it a lot but it has navigation errors to many of the Florida state parks. It does provide a lot of other type of information. I turn on the WiFi function when traveling. It now gives us updates on where to buy diesel and gives the price of that fuel. It has been very accurate in that area.
Overall, I would buy it again.

We use the MAP apps on our smartphones to backup the GPS. We have found those to be more accurate.

I have the Good Sam 7725. I find looking for a place where you do not know the address hard to find and set as a destination. When you try to scroll to an area and mark it as new destination it sometimes is difficult. The screen is very touchy. Other than that it is great.
