Standing on slide out roof ?

I recently saw this question on the Keystone Owners forum. I tried searching here for a short bit and did not see an answer.

Are the slide out roofs structurally sound enough to safely support a person walking on the roof? Does the slide mechanism figure in to how much weight the slide can support? My living room slides are hydraulic and the bedroom slide is schwintek. What about those folks with cable slides?

I recently got out on my slide roofs to clean and treat the top rubber wiper blade and the bulb seal that seals to the body when the slide out closes. I just eased out onto the roof of the big dining slide first and felt no movement or deflection…so I just creeped along on my knees cleaning the seals and wiper blade. I did the same to the other big living room slide and the small bedroom slide. It would have been better if I had done my research first.

I have always walked on mine to clean, and like you, to treat the seals. I don't know if it is correct or not but never a problem in 15 years. Both my slides are hydralic.

I have on the two lower body shorter slides with no problem. I have also stood on the 13 foot LR slide but have used a piece of plywood to spread my weight over a larger area vs my size 11 feet, I have not been on the BR slide but assume that ir would not be a problem there either. A personal only opinion - never on a Schwintec operated slide tho others may disagree. Tookk care of the ptoblem by installing toppers and if the slide roofs are dirty - can't see them

If you start to put your weight on the middle of the slide top (especially a long slide) and you see it start to bow downwards, you might not want to continue. Of course, I'm in the 220lb range and that might have something to do with it. I don't think the slide mechanism matters.

I have never had an issue standing on a slideout roof, and have seen technicians standing on them; however have never stood on top of a smaller bedroom slide.

I have stood, walked and worked on the top of my hydraulic and cable slides (and I am no lightweight). I recall, but can't find, one of the Montana execs (Sam or his predecessor) answering that question by jumping on the slide out roof.
