I believe this is true. My Onan had a major repair at 34 hours. The guy who fixed it said it had been run with too much load. He suggested I look at the air conditioner and sure enough it was pulling way too many amps but it still cooled.

He made his living repairing generators usually Onan. Onan generators have a set of small brushes deep inside that excites the armature. The more power that is called for the higher the voltage on the brushes and the faster they wear out.

This is what one manufacture says about loading a Generator. This is why I sold my 2000`s they would scream any time I started the microwave with just one A/C running.

2. SIZING
Part of the generator sizing process also includes the
identification of the application’s peak load
requirements. For standby applications, the load target
range is 60 to 80 percent. Under-sizing a generator
does not help the life of the generator, and can
actually lead to engine damage; this pertains to diesel
engines in particular. Temperatures and fuel delivery
requirements should also be kept in mind. A properly
sized generator will provide an end user optimal
product performance

I was away and late to this discussion.
Lots of variables with generator/inverter performance.
Elevation, Fuel type, Air temp, Humidity, Brand/Size/Type, Age/Technology.
I have not field tested my 2k Honda with my new rig but I was going to set the power draw at 10 amps at sea level on gas.
Might need a second Honda in parallel and a fuel system when not in sunshine.
Jury is out.
