Last night I turned heat pump off and turned furnace on as the outside temp was forecast to drop to the low 40’s. The heat pump continued to run with the furnace and on the thermostat the word low is visible where auto is normally displayed. Is this normal. I ended up turning the system off for fear of the heat pump freezing up and ran a portable heater.

For a Dometic system, leave the fan on Auto. Then select the function you want. Heat pump should work until you get to 40°F.

If the fan is set for anything but auto it will continue to run with the furnace even though the heat pump it'self isn't running.
