I am looking for recommendations for a campground close to downtown Charlotte. Will be traveling through that area in September and will need to stop near Charlotte to attend a three day convention. Any suggestions will be helpful.

Several years ago we stayed at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort. It is one of the closest parks to downtown Charlotte. From the current listing it is still very highly rated, but also pretty expensive. This is the only RV experience we have in the Charlotte area.

We stayed at Fieldridge Acres next to the intersection of I485 (on west side) and NC 29 which is just south of I85.
They have four pull through sites with water, 50amp electric, and sewer. It worked for us as an overnight stop each way on our last trip. $20 per night. It is more of a permanent park now but supported our needs. There is a great ice cream shop next door.

I would avoid the KOA in Statesville North of Charlotte

We're at Camp Wilderness Resort now with the Grandkids. They're enjoying the pool and putt-putt and Carowinds of course. The campground is just off I77 at exit 90. FHU with 50 amp service.
