Removing SuperGlide Hitch from TV
I was wondering if anyone had suggestions in removing the superglide hitch from the tow vehicle. I removed the pins and raised the hitch using the trailer. Since the hitch sits forward in the slide, the weight is front heavy. We were able to hold it up while driving the truck forward. We then dropped in on to a cart.
Thanks,
Ken

When I remove mine I pull all the pins and remove piece by piece. You will still need help lifting the tube and slider assembly.

Ken,
I installed a hoist in the garage. I remove the pins pull it up and after moving the truck, lower it down on piano moving cart to roll it out of the way.

I use a cherry picker (Engine Hoist) I can have it out and stored in about 15 minutes. Same time for installation. Only problem is the hoist I have is not the fold up kind and takes up a lot of space. If you decide to go this way consider a fold up model.
Good Luck,
John

We pull the pins and lift it with the fifth wheel. I've not seen any problems.

I picked up a 1 ton chain hoist from Harbor Freight and mounted it permanently in my the rafters of my shop. I use it to load and unload my hitch and the Honda 3000 Generator. Works slick.

I use a little more old fashioned technique to remove the hitch. I remove it in three sections (capture plate, slider assembly, rails) using a two wheel hand cart and truck ramps. I store it all in my garage sitting on top of the hand cart which lays down on the floor with the slider still stapped to it. Up here in New England it is just about the time to take it out of the truck bed which is always a sad time.

Hi,
I have been wanting to mount a electric winch to the rafters to lift mine out. Do any of you have a pic of the method you attached it to the rafters? Just curious to make sure I dont have a problem

It doesn't take anything fancy. A chainfall attached to a rafter that will hold the weight. Drive under hook it up, pick it up and drive out from underneath. Buy a piano dolly like mentioned above or use a pallet with casters to store the hitch on. I bet I can remove my superglide quicker than those guys with the regular hitch on rails and install it quicker too.

I dismantle our Superglide 18K similar to Pete Hanson's method. The base with the rails is removed by me and a much younger and stronger neighbor guy. I do however like all the hoist and lift techniques offered here. Tks.

I never take it out, except for the capture plate. When friends ask to borrow truck to haul something, I tell them the hitch doesn't come out. Great excuse. If I Have to haul, I borrow my SIL's truck.
