Bottle the bug
I don't know where to post this. We use bottled drinking water, bottled green tea, bottled Coca Cola, all with screw on tops. Usually there is at least one handy in the trash basket. Occasionally, a spider or one of the lady bug looking stinky beetles can be seen crawling around on the ceiling or a wall, etc. Rather than trying to swat it or smash it in some way which creates a stink or a spot, I now get the empty bottle put the open mouth of it over the bug, they crawl inside and I cap it and back in the trash, no muss, no fuss.

Now my daughter would ask you to do one more thing -- take them outside and open the bottle and let them loose again. (She believes spiders eat other creepy-crawly things.)
Myself -- I just squash them but I like your idea - sure help on trying to clean up some of the mess they make on occassion when squshed!!! By the way, she is still trying to convince me that they are good for the environment -- 20 plus years and not convinced yet!!!!

Well, if catch and release is your gig, the bug in a bottle is more likely to keep the bug safe than your fingers. You are less likely to do an oopsy.

That is certainly true, but I don't want to drag out the vac to catch one bug when I can grab the bottle, catch and cap the bug and be back in my seat before I can get the vac out.

Stiles, I use it especially before bedtime, works great getting them off the high ceiling. I catch and release a lot too, but some pay the price for agrivating trespassing.

That is a good idea, but I don't own a rechargeable vac. I once had one, but I wiped the dust off it and put it in our estate sale when we went full time. I don't think I want to purchase one to catch bugs. But if you have one it would certainly work.
Hey this post is one of those silly ideas that come on the spur of the moment. Probably not worth the electrons it takes to post it. I really don't care how one goes about catching and/or dealing with pests. This works for me and I am sure your way is better.

Thanks y'all! I have been trying to figure out how to keep bottles of beer in the refrigerator. Now I have an excuse for DW.
We really just catch them in the hand also and toss them out they door. If the bite me, that's a different story.
Edited for spelling. I don't know enough about grammar to correct it!

Wayne, Great idea. If DW sees a bug, she can get you a bottle from the refrigerator, then you can drink it before you catch the bug. No, on second thought I'd probably be leaving the screen door open all the time.
