Trailer weight v tire capacity

Has anybody run accorse the problem of the gross trailer weight capacity exceeding the tire capacity at max air pressure?

According to the trailer specs published by keystoe on the High Country page max trailer wieght is 14285 (shipping weight + cargo) the tire mafg says the tires are rated for 3520 lbs each or 14080 total.

I thought it was a federal law to sell a vehicle that did not meet weight specs.

Not all the weight is carried by the tires, your truck carries some of the weight around 20% of the trailer weight. But I think none of these heavy trailers should come with only E rated tires.

You need to subtract the pin weigh from the weight of trailer. What you really need to do is get rid of the ST junk tires. I've been here since 2004 and the hot topic for several years in the summer has been , I had a blowout and it did X amount of dollars damage to my camper, I wish I had replaced my Marabomb tires but I thought I could ------- and everything would be alright. How many times have we seen that? Tens maybe hundreds.

As noted, 3,000 lbs or more is supported by the truck making the tire rating well above the weight on them. But I agree with above about the ST tires.

Towing your trailer with a st tire from china (exception being sailun) is equivalent to being the person clint eastwood, aka dirty harry, is pointing the big gun at when he says "are you feeling lucky...". And yes, I had two blowouts before I could get them off the trailer, which was on the same trip when another rv'r informed of what I had on the montana. John

The tires ONLY have to match the axle ratings. Your axles are rated @ 7000lbs and the tires are 3520ea so you have 7040lb rated tires. Thus that meets the requirements.

Now, go remove the ST tries and either get a set of Goodyear G614 or Sailun S637 tires. Sell the junk ST tires on Craig's list.

Also, change the valve stems to metal ones and get a tire monitor system.

Enjoy that new trailer....

Thanks to all for the advice. Picked up the 352rl today, and just finished loading most of our stuff into the new one. I will definitely look into upgrading the tires, and plan to wax it as the temps cool off here in Arizona.

If your new rig came with Giodyear Marathon, (Chinabombs), I would highly recommend that you upgrade your statement of , "I'll look into it...", to, "I'll order my New tires and not drive my rig until I get them installed", if you want to know why, simply ask the dozens, if not hundreds of us who have experienced these bombs blowing up, (my repair bill was $4,000)

Snoopy, hope the tires hold up for you till you can replace them. If you haven't read it on the forum yet, the tires are only good for 65 mph max. After that the changing diameter of the tire at speed weakens the steel cords and then they fail with a certain flair. And the rig was delivered to where you bought it on its own tire...being towed well in excess of 65 by the delivery driver. Good luck. John

If you buy new tires, the sailuns are speed rated at 75 mph.

Just sent the tire distributor a email requesting speed rating and load @ pressure chart specs. Will post results when I receive them. Was told at the dealership that these tires were rated for 75mph.

According to the sticker on the side of my 352, I only have 6000 lbs axles.

You can check with simple tire on the internet. They have a chart that tells you what rating there tires are as for as speed rating and also weight capacity. My 235x85x16 load range G tires are over 4000 pound capacity at 110 psi and i believe the code for the speed rating is 129L WHICH IS 75MPH. These are ST tires but nothing like the other chinese tires sold.I doubt you will find a bad review on the internet.

Actually, the speed rating is the 'L', which is the up to 75 mph and the load rating is the 129, which is the 4079 lbs rating.

Does it really make a difference what the speed rating is? Who's going to drag one of these things 75 mph? Certainly not me.

And those that will drag them at 75 or higher could care less about the speed rating!

What is good about having a tire rated to roll at 75 mph is knowing it can handle the heat and when going 60 to 65 mph, you aren't constantly checking for tire debris flying off your tires. With the Chinabombs, 50 mph is too fast, and it was like having the weight of the world lifted from my shoulders when we upgraded to the G614's.
