anybody on the moc have a 2008 f250. 6.4 that they added a tuner to and if so what kind and what were your advantages over stock.

would love to have one . But we have emissions testing here and would not pass with the programmer. I have researched some and it is best to remove the dpf to get the best results.

I have the Edge tuner. Used it for about 3 years and found that it did not improve the mileage one bit. Also I did not notice all that much improvement in power however that mete be because I ran in the econo mode. I have taken it out of the truck and just run in stock Ford programming. Bottom line for me it was a wast of money.

I got a SuperChips for my Ram 5.9 this past January and like it very much. Set it up for the Towing mode and it really helps performance. No more searching for gears when towing.

Did not help towing mileage, but bobtail mileage went up 2.5 - 3.0 mpg. We also have emissions testing where I live and it passed last week with flying colors.

I have the Edge Evolution. Bottom line, save your money. I use it strictly in OEM mode for a digital display of EGT's, coolant and Trans temp otherwise IMHO it's useless. Like mentioned above the only way to truly change the performance is to delete the DPF and EGR which is illegal for on road use . Tuners are available but strictly for off road applications. There may be some value to changing the intake and exhaust from DPF back but doubt you'll see anything but a lighter wallet.

I don't have one on my Duramax but had one on my 5.9 Cummins. They do improve performance but I suggest you first get an exhaust temperature gauge. Chips allow over fueling and combustion temperatures can soar.

Not all tuners are programmed equally. Some are better than others for each type of truck. I didn't like the edge on my Duramax at all. The PPE tuner was even a little better than even my current programing on the Dmax. I'd suggest doing a little research and ask some questions on one of the Ford diesel forums to find the best tuners for the Fords. All the current generation tuners are emmisions friendly (EPA Smack down).

That said, your probably better off leaving the programming alone unless you plan on doing a full delete.

Might want to read up on tuners for the 6.4. Many things to consider, tuners can be good for the added hp but that comes with a price plus potential other mechanical problems with costs associated for more hp.

You have Ford's dreaded 6.4 ltr diesel, as do I. You do realize that any major engine work such as turbo's etc. requires the entire cab of the truck to be removed for access. Not an inexpensive repair. I would not consider running any aftermarket trick stuff on this engine or do anything that might lead to premature wear and failure. There are enough things to go wrong of their own accord.

I have a 6.4 2008 Ford with a Spartan Diesel tuner and couldn't be happier. I use the 210 Tow Haul tune. It has tunes from no HP to 310 additional HP. I have had my truck tuned for over 4 years with no problems. The reason I tuned it was to get rid of the DPF. I have also removed the EGR. The polution controls are the main source of problems on these engines. Remove them and it is a great engine with them you are begging for trouble. My truck is much better now. It is much more responsive the temperatures are easier to keep in range not harder. I monitor 8 different things engine oil and coolant, tranny, EGT, fuel temp, tranny slip, fuel rail pressure and turbo psi. Could I damage my truck? Sure Could I damage it stock? You can tear any thing up. If you drive like you have a brain you are not going to do your truck any damage. So I have over 600 engine HP you don't use any more power at any given speed.

GREATEST advantage of doing a DPF/Cat delete is no more of those stupid, bothersome Regen cycles. I hated the regen's.

I used the GearBoxz, replacement pipes and am extremely happy. The Tachyon version allows you to use 5 different power settings. Economy, which is below stock: Stock, +70, and two other higher power modes I don't recall.

Mine is 08 6.4 with 133K miles. Oh, also, If you do the DPF/CAT Delete, do the EGR Blocker plates too. I did both and just completed a 2200 round trip pulling my 15K 5ver. No problems at all. Pulled like a champ. I will however be adding a diesel muffler. The DPF/CAT acted as a muffler before. With it gone, the truck can get pretty loud when under load.

Unless you do the delete there is no need to tune. I agree completely don't tune without deleting the EGR and DPF.
